00:00I'm the oldest woman in Hollywood, but not the hottest.
00:03I hate to say it, it hasn't been a resurgence.
00:06I don't know how to tell you, but I've never gone away.
00:09I've been working in this wonderful business for 63 years now,
00:14and I'm so lucky to be as busy as I am.
00:18I went shopping one day after work, and I got it home and discovered it should have been a 10, and it was a 12.
00:32So I took this down, and I stitched this, and I didn't have the right color thread,
00:37and this is stitched in here with the wrong color thread.
00:39But you can't hit a moving target, and if I keep moving, nobody will ever know the difference.
00:48Music
00:58Everybody says, you know, when did you start, when did your animal love, in the womb.
01:04My mother and dad were, they were just as bad as I was, or as good, whatever.
01:10Music
01:18I've been around so long.
01:20I mean, I think, Alan used to, my husband used to say that I was a pioneer in silent television, which is practically true.
01:29Music
01:56I wish I hadn't said no to Alan Ludden for a year.
01:59I wish I had gotten smart and said yes the first time he asked me.
02:03I wasted a whole year, we could have been together.
02:05Music
02:17Probably the first night I ever did the Mary Tyler Moore show.
02:22Mary was, Mary and her then husband, Grant Tinker, and my Alan Ludden and I were, we were close, close friends,
02:29and we had sweated out the show the whole time.
02:32And when they asked me to do one of them, I was thrilled.
02:36Music
02:59We had the best time, and the four of us are as different, you know how different we are on the show?
03:04Well, the four of us in reality are just that different.
03:07It's like east, west, north, and south.
03:08Absolutely.
03:09Music
03:18I think the surprise of Golden Girls was it cut through all the demographics.
03:22They expected to be addressing just one audience, and it cut through all the demographics.
03:26That age group had not been addressed before, and to see that we're still breathing and being able to laugh and do all those other things that we do.
03:34Music
03:38Don't you have a little slit up the side?
03:39Yeah, that.
03:40Laughter
03:44That.
03:45Laughter
03:49When, when
03:50You gotta use everything you possibly can.
03:54Laughter
03:55It's such a blessing.
03:56First of all, you're so thrilled.
03:58You know, you can't, you keep thinking that they're going to get the wrong number.
04:03Oh, no, we didn't mean you for the life achievement.
04:06Music
04:23Oh, I'm scared to death.
04:24What is that going to be?
04:25I'm scared to death.
04:26I don't know where that all started, that Facebook thing, but it's going to be fun.
04:31Everything's fun.
04:32Music
04:52This is why I'm here, because it benefits the animal shelters and the animal welfare groups around the city.
05:01And this is little Mustard, and he's looking for a home, and so many of them are.
05:06And that's why I'm here today.
05:08Music
05:17You've been in television for a long time.
05:19175 years.
05:21Music
05:45I've never tried to pretend to be somebody I'm not.
05:50You play roles, of course, as an actress, but as far as with the game shows or the talk shows,
05:56if you try to be somebody you're not, the audience will pick up on you like that.
06:01You can't fool them.
