00:00Chenda is a percussion instrument, it's just like how you have dhol, so you call it Kerala
00:17drums.
00:18You play it at a lot of the festivals back here.
00:36It can be from 12 to 15 kgs and you wear it on your shoulder and you play it with these
00:42which is made out of wood again.
00:47Chenda is a very vital part of what I am because I have been playing it for the past 12 years
01:06and I have been practicing it and learning it.
01:21If it starts playing, nobody can sit still.
01:24I tried to surprise them and I got a bigger surprise in return.
01:37I was a little skeptical about it because there's saree and there's jewellery.
01:42I have never played Chenda with a saree, usually I wear a salwar and people don't expect you
01:49to show up there with a chenda on your wedding.
01:56We actually thought we'll perform for just a minute or two considering my attire and
02:00everything but we were so taken away by the crowd and the energy that was building up.
02:06We I think played for around 5 to 7 minutes.
02:21My parents have brought me up very close to the roots, I have learnt classical dance and
02:27chenda and all of this and I never feel away from India.
