00:00If you have reached a stage where you say an internet cut is more dangerous than the
00:08loss of human lives, then what can I say?
00:10The way facts are slanted, things are played up, what is right, what is wrong is confused.
00:21This is actually politics at work.
00:47Kashmir situation is often misrepresented or misunderstood in Washington.
00:52What is the current understanding of US lawmakers about Kashmir and terrorism there?
00:58If there is a terrorist incident, and it doesn't matter of what faith, the person who is killed,
01:08if there are Indian soldiers or Indian policemen who are abducted or killed, if there are people
01:13working for the government or citizens going about their business who lose their lives,
01:23how often do you hear people talking about it, pronouncing on it?
01:30In fact, look at the media coverage.
01:33What does the media cover, what does the media not cover?
01:36And that is how actually opinions and perceptions are shaped.
01:41There is a big song and dance about internet being cut.
01:48Now if you have reached a stage where you say an internet cut is more dangerous than
01:57the loss of human lives, then what can I say?
01:59If you look at the whole 370 issue, what was a temporary provision of the constitution
02:05was finally put to rest.
02:07This was supposed to be majoritarian.
02:09Now tell me what was happening in Kashmir was not majoritarian.
02:14So I think the way facts are slanted, things are played up, what is right, what is wrong
02:25is confused.
02:27This is actually politics at work.
02:30And I honestly believe that if you look at the whole 370, the Jammu and Kashmir situation,
02:40to me it is mind boggling that something whose merits were so obvious, there should even
02:49be people who could think in a different way.
02:52We should not let it rest.
02:54We should contest it.
02:55We should educate.
02:56We should message.
02:58We should shape the narrative.
03:00This is a competitive world.
03:02We need to get our messages out.
03:04That is my message to you.
03:06Look the more India goes its way and the people who believe that they were the custodians
03:13and the shapers of India lose ground in India, the more actually some of this debate is going
03:20to come outside.
03:22Because they are not winning in India.
03:25So they will try and win outside India, or try and shape India from outside.
03:31It is important to contest it.
03:34Because most of the Americans, they would not know the nuances and the complexities
03:42of our world.
03:43So it is important not to sit back, not to let other people define you.
03:51That is something which I feel as a community is very important for us.
