Transcript
00:00I wasn't necessarily a good dancer.
00:04I grew up with a very, very bad stutter.
00:11I have seen my father struggle.
00:13I have seen him break down.
00:15Not having enough money to survive.
00:18I did my first song with Farah Khan in Ka Hona Pyaar Hai.
00:32I wasn't necessarily a good dancer.
00:34And Farah took me aside and she talked to me about,
00:39you know, hey, you should practice.
00:41It's important to be able to dance.
00:44Raam Ki Kashti Mein was a song.
00:46There was a lot.
00:48It was not a very big, like a cruise liner.
00:51My room was really tiny.
00:53It was like six by six or something.
00:56So I was on top of the bed looking at myself
00:59and I was rehearsing the steps.
01:01And I rehearsed almost all night.
01:03And finally when I felt I had it,
01:07I laid down and I went to sleep.
01:09And then I woke up again in the middle and tried it again.
01:11It was still there.
01:12Then I went back to sleep again.
01:13The next day, to my surprise and to everyone's surprise,
01:16I got the steps right.
01:18And I was like, oh, something went off in my head.
01:22And I said, ah, practice.
01:26It was so simple.
01:30My father was very, very against me coming into films
01:34because of the struggle that he had to go through.
01:37He was an actor and a producer for 20 years
01:40and he struggled very hard for 20 years.
01:43And he did not want me to go through it.
01:45I have seen my father struggle.
01:47I have seen him break down.
01:49I have seen him expressing his fear
01:54about not having enough money to survive.
01:58I have seen him put his home and his cars on mortgage
02:02to make his next film.
02:04And then I've seen the victories come along as well.
02:08I wanted to prove to myself,
02:10especially because I grew up with a very, very bad stutter.
02:15And it was my one chance to look and feel normal.
02:21If I could just say my dialogues on screen like a normal human being,
02:25that was something that I was...
02:27There was a hunger inside me and I really wanted to be that.
02:33How did you deal with a sudden success,
02:35especially that you'd been around, you know?
02:38Yeah, I don't think I dealt with it very well.
02:40It constantly put me in a state of anxiety
02:44and I just knew that this is not the truth.
02:46It was too much, it was too much.
02:48It was too much, it was too soon and I couldn't understand it.
02:51I was given more than I deserve.
02:53It's like, you know, I worked for 50 rupees
02:57and somebody gave me 100.
02:59And I knew that they were going to come back for the 50 that they gave me,
03:02which I did not deserve.
03:04But you...
03:08You're free.
