Payal Kapadia was in disbelief as her film, "All We Imagine As Light", won the Grand Prix at Cannes. This is the first time in 30 years that an Indian film was a part of Cannes’ main competition section. Brut is the official media partner for Cannes Film Festival 2024. #Cannes2024

00:00Please don't wait 30 years to have another Indian film.
00:09Cannes Film Festival Grand Prix has always been a celebration of daring and inventiveness.
00:17A reward for the voices of change.
00:21Art does not come from a safe place.
00:26But the Cannes Film Festival has always provided a safe place for these voices to be heard.
00:33And tonight, once more, the Grand Prix will reward the strongest of these voices.
00:40The Grand Prix goes to All We Imagine As Live, by Payal Kambadia.
01:10Thank you so much for this.
01:30It was already a dream to be selected in competition and this was beyond my imagination so thank
01:36you.
01:37And because I'm a huge fan of Miguel Gomes, I follow what he does and also invite my actors
01:46here on stage.
01:48Because without them, I don't think this film would have been possible.
01:53It's three women who've given me so much and been really contributed to the film like a
01:58family and made it their own.
02:00So thank you ladies.
02:03A big round of applause for Payal Kambadia.
02:18I'm very nervous so I wrote something down.
02:24Thank you very much to the Cannes Film Festival for having our film here.
02:29Please don't wait 30 years to have another Indian film.
02:34And thank you very much to my producers, Thomas, Julian, Riku and Zico, who supported this
02:44weird idea.
02:48And to my entire crew, who a lot of them are here today, they're all there and there.
02:58So thank you.
02:59And to all those who couldn't make it here and are hopefully watching from home, thank
03:03you.
03:04It really takes a village to make a film so it couldn't have been possible without them.
03:10This film is about the friendship between three very different women and oftentimes
03:16women are pitted against each other and this is the world, this is the way our society
03:21is designed and that's really unfortunate.
03:24But for me, friendship is a very important relationship because it can lead to greater
03:31solidarity and inclusivity and empathy towards each other, which is why these are the values
03:39that I feel that we should all be striving for.
03:44And before I say goodbye, the huge amount of people who work behind the scenes at this
03:55festival, the workers here, they've done an incredible job and I'm really...
04:02It's because of them that the festival works so smoothly and I'm really thankful to them
04:07and I stand in solidarity with their movement.
