00:00Brut is at the heart of the 2024 Olympic Games, and here are 5 things that you probably did
00:06not know about this year's Games.
00:12This year, the opening ceremony won't be held in any arena or stadium, but instead,
00:19right there on the river Seine.
00:22Athletes will parade along a 6-kilometre stretch of the river on boats.
00:26There will be performances and shows as the boat cruises through the backdrop of Parisian
00:32landmarks.
00:32Paris wants to make the ceremony inclusive and accessible to all.
00:36Spectators without tickets can watch the ceremony from designated spots along the river,
00:42free of charge.
00:43Additionally, around 80 giant screens will be set up across the city for public viewing.
00:48This year's marathon swimming event will take place in the Seine River.
00:57It is highly unusual for Olympic Games to be held in city rivers because of the high
01:03amounts of pollutants or faecal matter that is usually found in them.
01:07The city conducted a €1.4 billion clean-up and the mayor of Paris swam in the river
01:13to prove that it was safe to swim.
01:19Despite efforts to make the Games affordable, the ticketing process has faced criticism.
01:25The first round of tickets were sold using a random draw and only in packs,
01:29making it expensive for many.
01:31Some of the most expensive tickets, for example,
01:34were the athletic semi-final that cost €980 or €89,000.
01:41Despite these concerns, Paris sold 8.6 million tickets,
01:45making it the record for most tickets sold in any Olympics.
01:53The Olympic Village will accommodate nearly 14,000 people,
01:58and despite July and August being summer months, there will be no air conditioning.
02:03Paris wants this year's Olympics to be the most sustainable Olympics of all time.
02:08This has led to some teams, including the US,
02:11flying in their own air conditioning for athletes.
02:16This year, we will see solo dance battles in the form of breakdancing,
02:23which has been introduced as a new sport.
02:25Other newly introduced sports include kayak cross and kiteboarding.
02:30However, karate, baseball, and softball were excluded from this year's Games.
