The father of Elle Edwards has been speaking out after finding out her killer's co-defendant is being released early as part of a government scheme. Connor Chapman was jailed for 48 years for the murder of Elle whilst his accomplice Thomas Waring, was jailed for nine years.

00:12Miss Edwards was struck by two stray bullets when Connor Chapman fired a
00:16Scorpion submachine gun multiple times outside the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey
00:20Village. Chapman was jailed for 48 years for the murder of Ellie. His accomplice
00:25Thomas Waring was jailed for nine years for possession of a prohibited weapon
00:29and assisting an offender. Ellie's dad Tim was notified by letter to say
00:33Waring would be released early as part of a scheme to free up prison spaces. The
00:37correspondence from the Ministry of Justice said Waring could be freed as
00:40early as April 2026, some 15 months earlier than planned. Mr. Edwards told
00:46Sky News that Sir Keir Starmer had written to him and said he'd asked the
00:49Justice Secretary to follow up with the family. Asked about the case on BBC Radio
00:53Merseyside, the Prime Minister said while he was against releasing prisoners early
00:57he had been forced to do so.
