A COMPUTER technician has added to his crazy collection of rides by building a full size remote-controlled DeLorean from Back To The Future. The incredible replica from the hit sci-fi franchise, boasts robotic servos that are controlled by a tiny remote. Dutch creator, Bjorn Harms, has an impressive past in this field and was inspired when he watched the films as a youngster. Taking six months of Bjorn’s time, he admits the building process was far from easy – but he is very proud of what he has managed to achieve.

00:00So I saw the first episode of Back to the Future, and the idea that Doc controlled the DeLorean with the remote control just always stayed with me. I just, you know, had to try.
00:21The movie was definitely a big inspiration for me to start this project.
00:26A lot of people tell me I'm crazy to build these kind of things.
00:33Building this car wasn't easy.
00:37My name is Bjorn Harms.
00:39My latest project, the only one in the world, the remote control DeLorean from Back to the Future.
00:46The entire process took me around six months to build it, and another three months to make it more safe and reliable.
01:17I even built the Futaba controller from Doc, just like in the movie, and it even works exactly like in the movie.
01:26This is the remote control, and it also has, of course, a lot of functions.
01:31This is the on and off switch.
01:33The moment I hit the switch to off, the entire failsafe system will go on.
01:37So that means that the brake will start braking, and the throttle will come loose, and the car will stop.
01:44I can also activate the lights.
01:47I can shift the gear lever to reverse, drive, and back to park.
01:55Of course, I can also steer.
01:56And of course, throttle, ignition, and starting.
02:10One of the hardest things to build was definitely the steering, because the steering axle in the DeLorean isn't power steering, so that was a big issue.
02:21So I removed the original steering axle from the DeLorean, and I replaced it with a power steering from an Opel Corsa, and hooked that up to my RC system.
02:33It's always a little bit scary the first time when you try it on the road.
02:38The DeLorean is still road legal with the remote control system.
02:41The engine size is a V6, 2.8 liters, and it has around 130 horsepower.
02:47Current speed, it's around maybe 150, 160 kilometers an hour, max.
02:54The weight of it is around 1250 kilograms, and with all the modifications on it from back to the future, it's around 1500 kilograms, give or take.
03:04In the past, I've also built different cars.
03:10The first Ridiculous Ride show did so great, and I'm very pleased with it.
03:15I got a lot of comments on Facebook and YouTube, a lot of positive and fun comments.
03:21I sold the Corvette for, I believe, 28,000 euros.
03:25I have to say that I get more reactions to this car than to the remote control Corvette I've built.
03:32The fans definitely go crazy when they see this car. You can't just take this car out for a normal drive.
03:38I think the value of the car with this RC system should be around, give or take, 70,000 euros.
03:45I'm definitely proud of what I've achieved with this car.
