00:00When out hiking, one of the last things you want to encounter is one of these.
00:03But that's exactly what happened on a trail in Vancouver, Canada.
00:07This video was captured by Jeffrey Zhao.
00:09He was hiking with some friends when they noticed something emerging from the fog behind them.
00:13Something that turned out to be a very large black bear.
00:16The group decided to speed up in the hopes the bear would lose interest.
00:19But they say that didn't happen.
00:20The bear continued to trot along following the hikers for nearly a mile.
00:24So the group continued to hike back the way they came
00:26until they got far enough away that they could break line of sight.
00:29Hiding in a bush to wait for the bear to pass.
00:32With Jeffrey saying about the encounter, quote,
00:34After a few minutes of waiting, the bear emerged along the trail
00:37and was likely under 15 feet away from me as it passed by.
00:40As we were hiding behind the shrubs,
00:42I informed my friends to take off their packs in the event that it charged up at us.
00:46Luckily, there was no need and they say the creature simply sauntered on by.
00:50But Jeffrey was ready, saying if it did happen to charge up,
00:53he had bear spray handy and he would have emptied the canister on it.
