A new survey reveals EU citizens are growing more and more US-sceptic, and think it's time for the bloc to pursue its own foreign policy and reduce ties with Washington.

00:11A growing number of EU citizens are distancing themselves from the U.S.,
00:17according to a survey by the Bertelsmann Stiftung Foundation.
00:2149% believe Washington is no longer their most important ally.
00:28Why, instead, preferring other countries, such as the UK or China, with the exception of Poland?
00:37The majority believe the EU should reduce its cooperation with the United States and go its own way.
00:46That's particularly true when it comes to foreign policy,
00:50where 73% of people want the EU to play a more active role.
00:58However, NATO overwhelmingly remains the cornerstone of international security,
01:05as 64% see it as protection against primary threats.
01:11Compared to older age groups, young people were less likely to believe that NATO protects peace in Europe,
01:21and more likely to believe international relations thrive on competition rather than cooperation.
