00:00The world is full of interesting places.
00:03Some are even mysterious to a great extent and thus are gold for the adventure seekers.
00:08In this video, we will tell you about 40 of these strange places around the world.
00:13Almost all of them are scenic beauties and popular tourist destinations.
00:17But still, not many believe these places actually exist.
00:22Prepare to be amazed!
00:24Number 1.
00:25Lake Hillier Have you ever seen a pink lake?
00:29Well, head to Lake Hillier in Middle Island, Australia.
00:33Hillier is world-famous for its stunning pink water separated from the intense blue of the
00:38ocean.
00:39No one exactly knows why the waters of the lake are pink, but some scientists believe
00:43that the color is due to the presence of the Dunaliella species' seaweed, which is rich
00:47in carotenoids.
00:49When waters reach high salinity, high temperatures and sunlight make these algae release a pigment
00:54that colors the lake pink.
00:57Number 2.
00:58Door to Hell Sounds scary, and it is indeed.
01:03The Door to Hell is a crater in the large natural gas field in Turkmenistan that has
01:08been burning for decades.
01:10A Soviet oil rig fell into the crater in 1971.
01:14The geologists somehow decided to put the pit on fire.
01:18Little did they know that the resulting gas-fed flames would continue burning until today.
01:23However, the crater is also a major tourist attraction.
01:28Number 3.
01:29The Hum of Teos The town of Teos in north-central New Mexico
01:34is a small community that is also home to an unusual mystery—the so-called Teos Hum,
01:40which nearly 2% of the general population claims to hear.
01:44The hum seems to have first been reported in the early 1990s.
01:49Investigative equipment was set up in the homes of several of the hearers, measuring
01:53sounds and vibrations, but after extensive testing, nothing unusual was detected.
01:59The source of sound in this town remains a mystery.
02:02Number 4.
02:03Fairy Circles, Namibia The arid grasslands of the Namib Desert in
02:08Namibia host rather peculiar phenomena.
02:12You will see mysterious circles all along the sandy plains.
02:15The area is infested with a deadly Euphorbia species of plants, which combines with the
02:20climatic conditions to produce these fairy circles.
02:24Although seeds do germinate inside fairy circles and seedlings emerge after a good rainfall,
02:29they survive only for a short period.
02:32Number 5.
02:33Nazca Lines The Nazca Lines are one of the most baffling
02:38geographical mysteries for over 80 years since they were first discovered.
02:43These are distinct white lines located in the high desert of southern Peru near the
02:47modern town of Nazca.
02:49The lines take shape to form simple geometric designs like trapezoids, rectangles, triangles,
02:55and even swirls.
02:56Some of the swirls and zigzags start to form even more distinct shapes like a hummingbird,
03:01a spider, and a monkey.
03:03The lines are virtually impossible to identify from ground level and were only discovered
03:08when commercial airlines began flying over Peru in the 1930s.
03:12But how these massive lines were able to be formed in the Nazca times is still a mystery.
03:19Number 6.
03:20Movil Cave The Movil Cave is situated in Magnolia, southeastern
03:26Romania, a few kilometers from the Black Sea coast.
03:29Movil is a 240-meter-long horizontal maze that has no natural entrance, having been
03:35sealed off from the surface during the Cordonary 2.5 million years ago by thick and impermeable
03:41layers of clays and loess.
03:43Still, more than 50 species of cave-adapted invertebrates, among them leeches, spiders,
03:49and water scorpions, have been found inside the cave, of which 37 are found nowhere else.
03:55They have evolved separately from the outside world since the cave was sealed off during
03:59the Cordonary.
04:01Number 7.
04:03Ringing Rocks of Pennsylvania Most of the time, when you hit a rock, it
04:08produces a loud thud noise.
04:10But in one mysterious place in Pennsylvania, the rocks don't thud, they ring like they
04:15aren't rocks but metal.
04:22The rocks have baffled both scientists and geologists since the area was discovered in
04:26the mid-1700s.
04:28Despite years of research, we still don't know for certain why the ringing rocks of
04:32Pennsylvania ring.
04:39Number 8.
04:40Hesdalen The home of the Northern Lights is also home
04:44to another peculiar sighting.
04:47In the Norwegian mountains, there is a strange but beautiful phenomenon taking place.
04:52Strange hovering flashing balls of light have been appearing in the valley in central Norway
04:57for at least a century.
04:59Sometimes the lights are as big as cars and can float for up to two hours.
05:03Other times, they zip down the valley before suddenly fading away.
05:07While the Hesdalen Valley is still unexplained, it will surely give you the feel of UFOs.
05:14Number 9.
05:16Lake Karachay Lake Karachay, located in the Ural Mountains,
05:21is the world's most polluted place.
05:24Just standing on its shores for an hour would give you a radiation dose of 600 roentgen,
05:29which is more than enough to kill you.
05:31But the lake isn't the real culprit.
05:34Lake Karachay is located within the Mayak Production Association, one of the largest
05:38nuclear facilities in Russia.
05:40The Russian government kept Mayak entirely secret until 1990, secretly dumping the nuclear
05:46waste in Lake Karachay.
05:48Due to that, there are several cases of leukemia and cancer in the surrounding region of Chelyabinsk.
05:53It's a real serious issue for the people of the region.
05:59Number 10.
06:00Gruner See Gruner See is a lake in Styria, Austria.
06:04But it also serves as a public park and is a favorite site of hikers.
06:09But not for the entire year.
06:11As the temperature starts rising during spring, the ice and snow on the adjoining mountaintops
06:16begin to melt and run down into the basin of land below.
06:19Then, the lake swells up to engulf the entire area, including the park.
06:24One can even see benches, a bridge, and walking trails.
06:29During July, the lake starts to recede and by winter, the lake is back to its original
06:33size and the park is returned once more to hikers.
06:38Number 11.
06:39Chenay Tempishka There is a river located in Peru in the Amazon
06:45forest that burns so hot it can kill.
06:48The river literally boils from within.
06:51Hot rivers do exist, but they're generally associated with volcanoes.
06:55But interestingly, there are no volcanoes in that part of the country.
06:59The river burns hot for an incredible 6.24 kilometers out of its total stretch.
07:05Most people don't believe it even exists, but it is actually the largest geothermal
07:10feature found on any continent.
07:13Number 12.
07:15Double Tree of Cazorzo A very unique tree grows in Piedmont, Italy.
07:21It's known as the Double Tree of Cazorzo.
07:24It's a mulberry tree, on top of which a cherry tree grows.
07:28The cherry tree rises well above the mulberry tree on which it stands.
07:32Nobody knows for sure how this happened.
07:34Theories are that some bird dropped a seed on top of the mulberry, which then grew roots
07:39through the hollow trunk of the host tree to reach the soil.
07:42While trees growing parasitically over another tree is not unusual, they normally do not
07:47reach the size and lifespan as seen in this case.
07:52Number 13.
07:53The Petrifying Well The Petrifying Well is a rather spooky and
07:58eerie place.
08:00According to legend, a witch called Mother Shipton lived in an adjoining cave.
08:04She was associated with all kinds of mystery and black magic in the area.
08:09It's said that she even bewitched a nearby well, which turns objects into stone.
08:14And it really does.
08:16The water turns any random item into stone within three to five months.
08:21But this might not be due to witchcraft, but rather due to the natural process of evaporation
08:26and unusually high mineral content in the well.
08:31Number 14.
08:32Lake Maracaibo Venezuela's Lake Maracaibo is known as the
08:37location with the highest concentration of lightning.
08:41An atmospheric event that occurs when the Catatumbo River enters Lake Maracaibo became
08:45known as Catatumbo lightning.
08:48At this exact place, the lightning storm lights up the sky without stopping for nearly ten
08:53hours per night.
08:55At no other place on our planet does so much lightning concentrate in one spot and so regularly.
09:03Number 15.
09:04Hokkaido There is no pond as blue as the one in Hokkaido,
09:09Japan.
09:10After a photograph of the blue pond made its way onto an iOS wallpaper, people could not
09:15believe something so beautiful really existed, and many tourists sought to see it for themselves.
09:21The pond has now become a popular Japanese icon.
09:25Number 16.
09:27Devil's Kettle Falls Known as the Vanishing Waterfall, Minnesota's
09:32Devil's Kettle Falls has been puzzling hikers and geologists for generations.
09:37At the falls, along Lake Superior's north shore, a river forks at a rock outcropping.
09:43While one side tumbles down a two-step stone embankment and continues as a normal waterfall,
09:48the other side vanishes into a deep hole and seems to disappear forever.
09:54Number 17.
09:55Crooked Forest The Crooked Forest is a grove of 400 oddly-shaped
10:01pine trees located near the town of Grafino in Poland.
10:04The pine trees were planted around the year 1930.
10:08From the base, the pine trees grow with a 90-degree sharp bend northward but then curve
10:12back to grow straight up into the sky.
10:15Despite the unnatural curve, these trees are generally healthy and grow up to 50 feet tall.
10:21Why this happened is still a mystery.
10:25Number 18.
10:26Mendenhall Glacier Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska is home to natural
10:31ice formations in the form of caves.
10:34When you step inside, the glacial ice surrounding you is cerulean blue.
10:39The Mendenhall Glacier happens to be one of these unique locations which makes your experience
10:44in an ice cave even more magical.
10:48Number 19.
10:49Rainbow Mountain Rainbow Mountain was discovered only four
10:54years ago when the snow covering it melted, revealing the natural beauty of the rock beneath.
10:59The mountain's unique mineralogy has created a marbling effect with layered hues of gold,
11:05lavender, and red towering into the sky.
11:08Considered a holy site in Peru, the mountain has become a hotspot for international visitors
11:14and is now the second most visited attraction in the Cusco region.
11:18Number 20.
11:20The Sargasso Sea The Sargasso Sea is a vast patch of ocean
11:25named for a genus of free-floating seaweed called Sargassum.
11:30While there are many different types of algae found floating in the ocean all around the
11:33world, the Sargasso Sea is unique.
11:36It harbors species of Sargassum that freely float around the ocean and reproduces vegetatively
11:41on the high seas.
11:43Sargassum provides a home to an amazing variety of marine species like turtles and endangered
11:48eels, white marlin, porbeagle shark, and dolphin fish.
11:53Number 21.
11:55Michigan Triangle The Michigan Triangle is no less than the
11:59Bermuda Triangle.
12:01The area spans from Manitowoc to Ludington and south to Benton Harbor.
12:05The triangle has accounted for numerous mysterious events.
12:09In 1891, a boat named the Hume disappeared, along with its crew of seven sailors.
12:16Not even a trace of the boat was ever found.
12:19In 1950, a Northwest Airlines Flight 2501 carrying 58 people crashed into the Lake Michigan.
12:26The plane was also never found.
12:29Number 22.
12:31Baltic Sea Anomaly Baltic Sea Anomaly is a feature on the floor
12:35of the Baltic Sea that was discovered by Swedish treasure hunters.
12:39Peter Lindberg, head of the OceanX team which made the discovery, says his team found this
12:45strange and mysterious seafloor object which resembles the lost city of the Atlantic.
12:50The rendering makes the object look man-made, but it almost definitely isn't.
12:55Research is still going on to determine what the object is.
13:00Number 23.
13:01Julia Sound A bizarre sound was recorded on March 1, 1999
13:07by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the NOAA.
13:13It was sufficiently loud to be heard over the entire equatorial Pacific Ocean for 3,000
13:18miles.
13:20The unidentified sound lasted for only about 15 seconds.
13:24NOAA researchers say that it's the sound of a large iceberg running into the seafloor,
13:29but no one really knows.
13:32Number 24.
13:34Devil's Pool Babinda An unsuspecting swim hole appears in the Devil's
13:39Pool Queensland Rainforest which is also Australia's most haunted spot.
13:44The haunted swimming hole has claimed more than 17 lives.
13:47Still, it's a popular destination for Australian hikers and backpackers traveling up to Cairns.
13:53A sign in front of Devil's Pool gives explicit warnings to people venturing into the area.
13:58It reads, this creek has claimed many lives.
14:02Number 25.
14:04The Black Forest You will definitely get lost in this deep,
14:09dark and famous cherry forest in Germany.

14:17rivers.
14:18It's named so because it's notoriously dense but also offers sensational views.
14:23Number 26.
14:25Tianzi Mountain The unique peaks of the Tianzi Mountain in
14:29China inspired the alien landscapes of Avatar.
14:33The tower-like peaks of the Tianzi Mountain rise up from the ground below to create a
14:37unique landscape.
14:39The peaks, which look like slender towers, are about 4,100 feet tall and resemble city
14:45skyscrapers more than a hill station.
14:49Number 27.
14:51Icy Monolith, Antarctica A giant icy monolith created by particular
14:57icy conditions is located in Antarctica.
15:00The conditions create what glaciologists call blue ice.
15:04The thickness of the ice prevents light from passing through to the other side of the cave
15:08which causes the ice to reflect nothing but blue.
15:12Red light is naturally filtered out from these dense globs of ice.
15:17Number 28.
15:18Bolivian Salt Flats The Salar de Uyuni is the biggest salt flat
15:24in the world and is the most famous tourist destination in Bolivia.
15:28In fact, for many travelers, the Bolivian salt flats are the sole reason why they visit
15:33the country.
15:34You will get some epic pictures and an unforgettable experience here.
15:38Think about 10 billion tons of salt sprawling across an endless desert.
15:44Number 29.
15:46Tumpak Sewu Tumpak Sewu Waterfall is known as maybe the
15:51coolest waterfall in all of Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
15:55This thing is called a waterfall, but it's more like a thousand waterfalls put together,
16:00which is why the name is closely translated from the local Java language meaning many
16:05waterfalls.
16:06The waterfall is super photogenic and is thronged by tourists all year round.
16:12Number 30.
16:14Abraham Lake Abraham Lake is a reservoir which was made
16:18with the completion of the Bighorn Dam in 1972.
16:22The lake is about 33 kilometers long and is located in Alberta, Canada.
16:27It's well-known for its unique feature called ice bubbles, which are created when methane
16:31gas is captured by the freezing surface.
16:34As the ice freezes more deeply, you can get stacks or layers of bubbles.
16:39The result is truly scenic.
16:42Number 31.
16:44Svartafoss Svartafoss is a waterfall in the south of Iceland
16:48in Skaftafell National Park.
16:51Svartafoss is one of the most incredible and glorious waterfalls in the whole of Iceland.
16:56Its name literally means the black waterfall.
16:59The narrow and extremely elegant waterfall drops 20 meters from a cliff composed of magnificent
17:04black basalt columns.

17:21this unusual landscape feels more like a Martian planet.
17:26Moon-shaped hoodoos loom above the rocky earth like enormous alien trees.
17:30It's located in the arid San Juan Basin of northwest New Mexico.
17:34Because of its geologic age and climate, the area is rich with animal and plant fossils
17:39like prehistoric crocodiles, turtles, fish, and even dinosaurs.
17:45But the fossils are not allowed to be collected.
17:48Number 33.
17:50Antelope Canyon Northern Arizona's Antelope Canyon invites
17:55visitors to step inside a monumental natural sculpture.
17:58It's also one of the most photographed destinations in the Southwest.
18:02Professional photographers plan to arrive at the canyon from mid-March through October.
18:07That's when the position of the sun creates light shafts that reach the canyon floor and
18:11illuminates the pink, red, orange, and gold patterns on the canyon walls.
18:16You would have to see it to dwell on its beauty.
18:20Number 34.
18:22Red Falls These five-story, blood-red waterfalls fall
18:27down very slowly out of the Taylor Glacier in Antarctica's McMurdo Dry Valleys.
18:32When geologists first discovered the frozen waterfall in 1911, they thought the red color
18:37came from algae, but its true nature turned out to be much more spectacular.
18:43The red color can be attributed to an ancient community of microbes.
18:47Trapped below a thick layer of ice, they have remained there ever since, isolated inside
18:52a natural time capsule.
18:54Antarctica's Blood Falls is a wonder to behold both visually and scientifically.
19:00Number 35.
19:02Lenshua-Maranhenses National Park The Lenshua-Maranhenses National Park can
19:07be truly hallucinating.

19:18It's the world's most dramatic sandscape.
19:20Dazzling blue lagoons numbering in the thousands hide below towering sand dunes draped across
19:26598 square miles.
19:29Every single one is inviting travelers to toil across the sand and hurl themselves into
19:33its magnificence.
19:35At least one imagined version of heaven surely unfolds in a scene similar to this.
19:41Number 36.
19:43Capillas de Marmal The Capillas de Marmal, or Marble Chapels,
19:48also known as the Marble Cathedrals, are one of the most important tourist attractions
19:52in Patagonia.
19:54Composed of three limestone formations, they stand out for the beauty of their columns
19:58and the intense blue of the waters that protect them.
20:01The cathedral, la capilla, and la cueva, sculpted on the shores of the Lago General Carrera

20:36Given its vibrant shades and alien structure, it will make you appreciate your planet and
20:40its wonderful creations.
20:43Number 38.
20:45Bermuda Triangle The Bermuda Triangle is home to some of the
20:49biggest unsolved mysteries in the world.
20:52Aircrafts, ships, and containers have been mysteriously lost in this North Atlantic region
20:57for at least 200 years.
21:00From UFOs to aliens to mythical creatures, all have been attributed to the disappearances.
21:06However, the mystery remains unsolved, so beware before you go there.
21:12Number 39.
21:13Kawa Ijen Volcano Kawa Ijen Volcano on the island of Java,
21:19Indonesia, has two of the most unusual occurrences on Earth.
21:23The first is an active sulfatara that emits hot, flammable sulfurous gases.
21:29These ignite as they enter Earth's oxygen-rich atmosphere and burn with an electric blue
21:33flame.
21:34The second occurrence is a 1-kilometer-wide caldera lake filled with turquoise-blue water.
21:40The color of the water is a result of its extreme acidity and a high concentration of
21:45dissolved metals.
21:46It's the world's largest highly acidic lake with a measured pH as low as 0.5.
21:53And finally, Number 40.
21:55Sea of Stars The shimmering shores of Vadu Island in Maldives
21:59are a heavenly sight.
