Judy Murray speaking at the St Andrews Book Festival in London
Transcript
00:00My book is called The Wild Card, it's my first fiction book, I did a memoir some years ago
00:07called Knowing the Score, but yeah it's about a female tennis player called Abigail Patterson,
00:13it's two halves of her life, the first 17 years where she overcomes considerable hardship
00:17to become one of Britain's top junior players, has to give up, stop playing and makes a remarkable
00:24comeback 20 years later as a wild card into the pre-qualifying events where Wimbledon
00:30finds herself on the centre court that she's dreamed of since she was young and suddenly
00:34finds herself the centre of media attention and everybody asking questions about where
00:38she's been the last 20 years and she realises that the secret that she's been keeping from
00:43everybody for those 20 years is about to be played out in public.
00:49What's it like doing festivals like this one?
00:52I love doing the book festivals, I mean when I did my memoir in 2017 I had no idea that
00:59the literary world was just so massive and that there were so many literary festivals
01:03across the UK and it's great to be able to step into somebody else's world for a short
01:09period of time so I think for me it's great obviously to be able to share my story and
01:16to share the books that I have written and the one that I'm about to publish next year
01:22but yeah you meet all sorts of fascinating people from completely different walks of
01:28life and although my book's about tennis the rest of the events that I will go to around
01:35the festival will have nothing to do with tennis.
01:40What about this festival in particular?
01:43What I love about this festival is of course that it's full of Scottish authors so it's
01:46an opportunity to showcase Scotland's finest I guess and for me it's called the St Andrew's
01:54Book Festival, it's the first year of it so of course it's wonderful to be able to come
01:57down and support that and I love the fact that I was speaking in St Columba's Church
02:01which of course is the Church of Scotland in the heart of the city of London.
02:07Can you tell me what's Andy's new role?
02:12Andy has taken on a role with Novak Djokovic to coach him a little bit in the off-season
02:18and through the Australian Open so they have been friends since they were 11 years old,
02:24they know each other very well as people, they know each other's games incredibly well
02:28so I think Andy's hoping that he can be a great tactical and motivational support to
02:36him as he starts to come towards the end of his career.
