00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. leads the turnover of a food production facility in
00:04Lokban, Quezon Province, aimed at boosting food production and supporting local farmers.
00:10The project provides advanced agricultural technology and market access,
00:14benefiting thousands in the region. PTV's Gabby Villegas have the full report.
00:21President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. presided the turnover ceremony of the Greenhouses and
00:26Post-Harvest Facilities Project of the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture,
00:30or KUPIA, with the aim to strengthen food production in Lokban, Quezon. The greenhouses
00:35are planted with high-yield vegetables such as cucumber, romaine lettuce, and French beans,
00:40which are being sold by farmers. In his speech, President Marcos,
00:44Jr. underscored the importance of the food production facility in sustaining the needs
00:48of the agricultural sector and in helping small communities improve their ability to export their
00:53products. The president also shared that trade between the two nations will be intensified through
00:59market access for agricultural products, particularly for tropical fruits such as
01:04pineapple and bananas, due to the recent ratification of the free trade agreement.
01:08We are also thankful to the Republic of Korea for the overwhelming support of your National
01:14Assembly for the ratification of our FTA, which came much earlier than we had expected.
01:21You have reinforced our call for a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
01:27Agriculture Secretary Francisco Chu Laurel, Jr. said,
01:30nature plays a large role in the success of the project despite the threat of climate change.
01:35This greenhouse represents more than just infrastructure. It symbolizes innovation,
01:42hope, and power of collaboration as we work together to uplift the lives of our farming
01:46communities. It reflects our collective vision of sustainable farming that embraces modern
01:52solutions and adapts to the ever-evolving needs of the sector.
01:56Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Sang-hwa shared South Korea's plan to build the first
02:01Korea Agricultural Machinery Industrial Complex in the country, with construction expected to
02:06start next year. Ambassador Lee added 4,000 metric tons of rice from South Korea will
02:12arrive in the Philippines through the ASEAN Plus-3 Emergency Rice Reserve. Half of this is
02:17scheduled to be shipped today, while the remainder may possibly arrive in January next year.
02:22For Lukban Mayor Agustin Villaverde, the event is historic.
02:42Farmers were provided with eight greenhouses, a seedling nursery, a post-harvest facility,
02:58financial assistance, technical support, and other needs. Up to 2,000 farmers in Lukban will benefit
03:04from this. Aside from Lukban, the towns of Siniloan in Laguna and Saragosa in Nueva Ecija
03:10are also included in KOPIA's pilot villages in the country. KOPIA facilitates the transfer of
03:15Korean agriculture technology to farmers from developing countries that aims to help to
03:20increase their income, market their high-value crops to improve and sustain their livelihood,
03:25making them self-sufficient.
