00:00The longtime dream of the people of Maripipi, an island town in Biliran, to have their own fire station is finally coming true.
00:08With the help of local leaders and the Bureau of Fire Protection,
00:11an important step has been taken to enhance the safety and security of the community.
00:16Philippine Information Agency Eastern Visayas' Jane Sanjano has more.
00:22This is the island municipality of Maripipi.
00:25It can only be reached by more than two hours of boat travel from the mainland in the province of Biliran.
00:32Maripipi is one of the 14 towns in Eastern Visayas that has remained without a fire station for many years.
00:38It is important to have a fire station because in case of emergency, it is easy to call the area.
00:45If there is no building or if there is not enough equipment.
00:50To fulfill the request of the island residents,
00:53the Bureau of Fire Protection began the construction of their new fire station.
00:58It is important to have a fire station because we are training the fire station
01:06because the fire station is dangerous.
01:11Although they are a separate island, Maripipi Mayor Joseph Caincoy emphasized
01:16the importance of having a fire station and a fire truck to be utilized during fires and calamities.
01:24The construction of the fire station of Maripipi is one of my outstanding needs of the infrastructure
01:30because the fire station is mandated by law.
01:33Since it is mandated by law, Maripipi is very peaceful and safe.
01:39But still, as a responsible person or officer, as a local chief executive,
01:45it is one of my visions that Maripipi should have a fire station.
01:53According to the Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Office in Eastern Visayas,
01:57aside from Maripipi, there are six more ongoing fire station construction projects across the region.
