01:14especially when they abandon realism and start going pseudo-super saiyan.
01:24Number 9, Hajime no Ippo
01:32Everyone loves an underdog story, everyone loves a great sports anime, but the
01:44The trials and triumphs of one Ippo Makunouchi, a former punching bag whose discovery and
01:51aptitude for boxing set him down the path of becoming Japan's featherweight champion.
01:57The reverence for the sport is evident across every episode, the characters are beautifully
02:02realised and most importantly of all, the boxing matches are top-notch.
02:07There are too many cheerworthy moments across the series to count.
02:20Number 8, Baki
02:27The insanity that takes place across Baki's fighting career cannot be understated, blending
02:33together martial arts mastery, historical figures and sheer lunacy.
02:38Watching these fighters defy physics and logic in the name of adrenaline-fuelled beatdowns
02:43is a sight we never get tired of watching.
02:46From fighting prisoners, prehistoric warriors, Muhammad Ali's son as well as his walking
02:51extinction event of a father, Baki is a series that will perplex you just as much as it will
03:01thrill you.
03:15Number 7, Vinland Saga
03:21Part historical fiction, part character study, there's perhaps no better written character
03:25across the modern anime scene than that of Torfinn and his journey through both revenge
03:30and redemption during the time of Vikings.
03:34The battles are beautifully bloody, no doubt, but when the introspection among its cast
03:39is this good and with every player on the board this rich in personality, then you'll
03:44find yourself just as moved by the dialogue as you will by the sword swings.
03:57Compelling doesn't even begin to cover it.
04:09Number 6, Golden Kamuy
04:11A hunt for treasure, the map tattooed on the bodies of escaped convicts and a nigh-unkillable
04:17man at the centre of it all, Golden Kamuy is a ride and a half and we're here for
04:27it.
04:28There are certainly macabre elements to it and the fights can be especially savage, with
04:33Sugimoto and company having to face up to some of Japan's most dangerous denizens.
04:39But rest assured, there's enough intrigue and absurd comedy to offset it when the moment
04:44calls for it.
04:49It's a great twist on the globe-trotting western adventure stories of the past and
04:57we can't wait to see it continue.
05:10Number 5, Black Lagoon
05:18An island filled with criminals where extortion and violence are the norm, the perfect setting
05:23for all kinds of chaos.
05:25And leading the charge is Lagoon Company, a small group of smugglers for hire who often
05:30find themselves embroiled in all kinds of craziness.
05:33With the gun-slinging, foul-mouthed Revy acting as both its mascot and muscle, Black Lagoon
05:39revels in the lawlessness of its world.
05:49You won't get through an episode without at least one body dropping.
05:52While the brutality never stops, it does have a heart to offset the foulness of Ruaniper.
06:04Number 4, Getterobo Armageddon
06:06A sequel to a non-existent retelling of this classic mecha series sounds like a bit of
06:12a confusing premise, but somehow Armageddon pulls off one of the most engaging and blood-pumping
06:18anime series in just 13 episodes.
06:32Scientists have infiltrated Earth and taken over its most powerful assets, the mind of
06:36scientist Dr. Saitome.
06:38In order to combat this new threat, the old team has to get back together and pilot an
06:43amped-up version of their legendary machine.
07:00If you like your mecha with a lot of manly screaming, then we can't recommend this
07:04enough.
07:13Number 3, Cowboy Bebop
07:22Roaming the stars, haunted by the shadows of their past, and encountering the wildest
07:27spectacles life can throw at them, the residents of the spaceship Bebop deal with the outrageous
07:33and the philosophical on a daily basis.
07:36With effortlessly cool Spike Spiegel at the helm, the crew's personal struggle, combined
07:41with the violence they face every day as bounty hunters, ensures that for as episodic as their
07:47encounters are, each are brimming with either high-octane action or profound meaning.
07:58Also, that soundtrack slaps from here to Venus.
08:11Number 2, Fist of the North Star
08:13An apocalyptic world, the end of civilization, raiders running amok, and one hulk of a man
08:19who can kill them with just a poke of his fingers.
08:31Put it all together and you've got yourself a simple yet endearing epic series that showcases
08:37just how you can indeed watch muscle-bound ruffians explode over and over again.
08:43And have it never get old.
08:48Kenshiro may be a man of few words, but the language of death he speaks with his fists
08:53and high-pitched war cries is more than enough to captivate any action fan.
