00:00Yeah, tough game, tight game. Not a lot of openings for either side.
00:07Just a few opportunities to score.
00:14We started the game well, probably should have been one up and put some pressure on,
00:20but they had their spell.
00:24Frey's made a couple of good saves.
00:27We got our noses in front and just couldn't push on.
00:31Not for the lack of trying, the players gave everything they could,
00:34but we just couldn't push on after scoring the goal we did.
00:39It was a decent strike by them for their goal.
00:44We tried to get some momentum late in the game when they went down at ten,
00:48but there wasn't a lot of football being played at that time.
00:51There was a lot of stoppages and we just couldn't get over the top of them.
00:55You've got a number of players out already.
00:57How much do you think Dominic Salenko's late withdrawal affects your plans and preparation?
01:01It doesn't help, because he's that on top of Richie being out as well
01:09and Wilson being out and Mikey Moore being out.
01:12It leaves us pretty thin up top and we're trying to manage that process.
01:19I think from my perspective, the most important thing is the players,
01:23the ones that are out there anyway, give an absolute everything.
01:25That's all you can ask for.
01:26They're just working their socks off, digging in as deep as they can
01:31to try and keep us progressing.
01:33That's all you can ask for.
01:35There's a lot of games coming up now, Thursday, Sunday, the Cup as well.
01:40Is there an expectation that there are going to be games like this?
01:42City was amazing last week, but there are going to be games like this as well,
01:45given the amount of absences?
01:48Yes, you're playing tough opposition.
01:51The games aren't always going to go smoothly for you.
01:58I know people are going to keep using City as a reference point,
02:01but against City I was able to put on Timo Werner and Brendan Johnson.
02:06We had Vicario and Goal.
02:08I get that people are looking for easy targets,
02:18but if people don't understand what we're dealing with at the moment
02:21and how the players are coping with it,
02:23I think it's fairly self-evident.
02:26We're going to have to have days like today where things aren't running smoothly,
02:31but all you can ask for the players is to give everything they can.
02:35I think they did that and more today.
02:44I hope so.
02:45He trained yesterday, but obviously he came in today,
02:50but he didn't look well at all, so we sent him home.
02:54It's obviously an illness, it's not an injury,
02:56so we just need to see how he settles down in the next couple of days.
03:00Hopefully it's nothing too significant.
03:03Tom?
03:04You talked a lot about conviction throughout the time here.
03:07Sonny's been someone who's scored so many goals for this club,
03:10but lost a few games and perhaps a little bit this season.
03:13He's been struggling a little bit.
03:15How do you help him get the confidence?
03:18You could say that about a number of our players.
03:21I think the key to it is just to stay focused, and Sonny will.
03:25It's not like he dwells on these things.
03:29That's what the best goal scorers do.
03:32They don't dwell on it for too long.
03:34I haven't sensed in him that he's worried about it,
03:39because he's proven himself year after year at this level.
03:43I've seen different players go through those spells at different times,
03:47and the key to it is just to maintain focus
03:50and not dwell too much on what's happened before.
03:54I'm sure the goals will flow again for Sonny soon.
03:58Ali?
04:01Yeah, I don't know. He got a knock, so it's a bit of a deadlock.
04:05Hopefully again nothing too significant.
04:09George?
04:10You left Romero back in the first leg,
04:13and I guess that just means you play some games you just need to breathe.
04:18Yeah.
04:20We're going to have to sort of protect our players,
04:24because, as I said, we're thin on numbers,
04:26and like I said, Deke's playing every minute.
04:29I've rarely subbed him off,
04:31so we've just got to be careful with him and with a few others.
04:37But at the moment we don't have too many options,
04:41so we've just got to try and manage them the best we can.
04:44Obviously that affects performance,
04:46but I think he got through the game well,
04:50and I guess for Thursday he should be in good shape.
04:54Romero?
04:56Potentially, mate. He still hasn't trained with the team,
04:58so he's getting closer, but he still hasn't trained with the team.
05:01So him and Mickie are still kind of working with the sports science staff,
05:06so hopefully not too far away.
05:09Mike?
05:11I know he played the other night,
05:12but that was Fraser's first league game for 18 months.
05:15It looked like he'd never been away.
05:18Yeah, he was good.
05:19We needed him obviously in some big moments today.
05:23Look, I think when you lose your goalkeeper
05:28and somebody as significant as Vic for us,
05:30I think the key to that is to have somebody experienced
05:32who's not going to be overruled by filling those shoes.
05:36Fraser certainly is that.
05:38He's done it for a number of years.
05:41We kind of see him every day.
05:43What you saw out there, we kind of see every day at training,
05:46and he still has a really strong work ethic.
05:51So like I said, we had a couple of big moments today
05:53which were important for us.
05:56Again, he'll be important moving forward.
05:59May I ask, when you say people are looking for easy targets
06:03and not understanding what you're dealing with,
06:05are you disappointed with the reaction of the final whistle
06:07or something that's been said?
06:09No, what do you mean, final whistle?
06:12Just sort of jeers.
06:14Oh, I didn't hear that.
06:16If that's the case, no, I'm not talking about the supporters.
06:20I'm just saying I've had already probably three questions
06:23on the Man City game, and why can't we repeat that?
06:27Like I said, I think if you can't see that even in seven days
06:30we've copped a couple of significant blows since then,
06:34then I think it's too easy to say,
06:37well, let's just play like we did against Man City every game.
06:43It somehow, again, seems with this club
06:46that whatever it is that we do well
06:50is then used as a millstone to bring us down
06:53in every other opportunity.
07:00I guess from my perspective, as I keep saying,
07:02it's really important that we don't react to any of that
07:07and just sort of stay focused on...
07:10Because I just sometimes feel like,
07:13especially the players we've got at the moment,
07:15they're really working really hard for this football club
07:19to try and progress us to where we want to be.
07:25We're in good shape. We're still in good shape.
07:28We're in a decent position in the league.
07:30Like I said, we're still in the Carabao Cup,
07:32we're in a decent position in Europe.
07:34So it's about us maintaining our focus on continuing to develop.
07:46Do you feel like the Crosses aren't playing?
07:49Yeah, no, they do. Fulham ask you a lot of questions.
07:52They've got some pretty aggressive full-backs and wide players
07:56and I think they're number one in the league for crosses in the box.
07:59We knew we had to deal with that today.
08:01Again, Benny and Radu have been outstanding through this spell.
08:07There aren't too many teams in the league who have both their centre-backs out.
08:10I've seen so much violin playing over one centre-back out.
08:14But we're just supposed to get on with it.
08:16The beauty of it is these boys are.
08:19I love that. I love the character they're showing.
08:21I love the fact that they're not seeking excuses
08:24or wanting me to make allowances for it.
08:26But at some point I need to also acknowledge the massive effort
08:30that all these guys are putting in.
08:32Like I said, Radu and Ben were outstanding again today.
