00:04Prince of Wales arrived at the city's cruise liner terminal on Sunday
00:08December 1st a day early ahead of predicted bad weather. Absolutely huge I
00:12mean I couldn't believe it and getting up alongside it and being able to see I
00:16would love to go on board and have a look and I think you can do that but
00:20obviously we're visitors so we probably won't get to see that but the
00:23opportunity for people to go on and see what it's actually like on there would
00:26be great. I brought the children along, I was in school and we've come to see it and it's
00:32fantastic. I said you have to go because you'll never see it again in your lifetime.
00:36Our father worked in HM Dockyards and in days of yore he worked on the HMS Ark
00:45Royal and so forth in the electrical repairs section. Massive it's gorgeous.
00:51It's huge. HMS Prince of Wales will spend a week-long visit to the Mersey allowing
00:55her 800 crew to engage with local schools, community projects and civic
00:59leaders and give the public an insight into life aboard the Portsmouth based
01:03warship as she gears up for her maiden deployment. It's the first time since
01:07March 2020 just before the country went in to lockdown that the ship's schedule
01:12has allowed her to visit Merseyside. That maiden appearance drew hundreds of
01:17thousands of people to the city with around 20,000 members of the public
01:21enjoying a tour of the carrier. All tickets to go on board are now sold out
01:25unfortunately however you can still view the ship from the quayside. The ship
01:29will celebrate her ties with the city by renaming one of the main passageways
01:33aboard after the Beatles classic Penny Lane complete with street signs donated
01:38by Lord Mayor Councillor Richard Kemp. Civic dignitaries and leading figures
01:42will be treated to a demonstration of what the ship and her sailors can do.
01:45Hundreds of teenagers and young people will be invited on board for a day of
01:49celebrating careers harnessing science, technology, engineering and maths in the
01:53Royal Navy and beyond. She will depart on Monday 9th of December returning to
01:58Portsmouth.
