00:00I'm the Right Reverend Dr Shaw Patterson and I'm the Moderator of the General Assembly
00:11of the Church of Scotland and I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.
00:15The other day back at my manse there was a power cut and one of the issues that came
00:21from the power cut was that the house alarm bell went on to automatic and we couldn't
00:25silence it. So there was I in the middle of the night up a ladder at the alarm box with
00:31a pair of snips in my hand deciding do I cut the red wire or the blue wire to try and stop
00:37the noise of the alarm wakening all my neighbours up. It was quite a task and yet the next day
00:43when I thought about trying to repair things I then realised just how straight forward
00:47it was to connect the wires and that reminded me that so often we become disconnected from
00:54God. Christmas is a wonderful time for us to reconnect with God, to make that communication
01:00once more for God loved the world so much he sent his son Jesus Christ to be with us
01:06but we cut ourselves off from him. This is a season not just of goodwill, not just of
01:11presents, not just of parties and celebrations but it's a season when we can remember just
01:17how much we're loved, how much God cares for us. So please take a moment, take an opportunity
01:24to connect with God once more as we get ready, as we prepare, as we give thanks for this
01:29wonderful season for unto us a child was born, Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace. Merry Christmas
01:36to one and all.
