Transcript
00:00I'm sorry. Let me just read this to you, ladies and gentlemen. This text will appear on the website, and Chris has actually written it. Let me have it.
00:10Arthur was a member of the town band when it was reformed in 1840. You see, this is why I say you've already heard all this lot.
00:17Together with his two daughters, Deborah and Nicola, in late 1883, he and his daughters, with others,
00:23performed as brass players in the community played today, which was the catalyst of band reforming.
00:30As a musician, Arthur played E-flat bass before turning to the bass trombone.
00:37He is the only founder member still playing with the band. He has held most official positions, other than that of the musical director.
00:50I have three exclamation marks. In addition, he has had a major role in organizing band tours in this country and in Europe.
01:03He has also been the originator of events involving the band and community, such as proms at Downs. Thank you to Henry and Susan.
01:14Carol's in the Square, which has raised thousands of pounds for local charities. His energy and ideas know no bounds. Long may they continue.
01:26The next item does not appear on the citation, but would you please join in?
01:34For he's a jolly good fellow. For he's a jolly good fellow. For he's a jolly good fellow.
01:43And so say all of us. And so say all of us. And so say all of us.
01:50For he's a jolly good fellow. For he's a jolly good fellow. For he's a jolly good fellow.
02:00And so say all of us.
02:11Well, ladies and gentlemen, that's not quite the end of it.
02:15It is my great pleasure to present Arthur with a certificate designed by Steve for life membership of the band.
02:27Joining the other two holders of the award, Ron Hamlin and John Glanfield.
