00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Always really
00:06lovely to speak to Alan Clayton. Now you're doing your traditional Christmas gig at the
00:10Chichester Inn, December the 14th, the band is The Dirty Strangers, but Alan, this year,
00:16bit of a difference, your first ever Christmas single.
00:20It is Phil, yes.
00:21Tell me about this Christmas single then.
00:24It's a, I always call it a bittersweet country and western single, with a bit of comedy in
00:31it, like they all have, a bit of sadness and a bit of comedy. It's called Turkey Bone,
00:36and it's about someone who's on his own, all he can afford is a turkey drumstick for Christmas,
00:43but he's so skint, he eats it Christmas Eve, and wakes up in the morning, just him and
00:49a turkey bone. That's all he's got for Christmas.
00:53And it's being released on the 13th, and we have physical copies for sale at the Chichester
01:00Inn on the 14th.
01:01Fantastic. And you've done a video which was partially filmed in Chichester for the single.
01:06It's filmed where I live now, in Chichester. We filmed it partly in Chichester, and you'll
01:12recognise all the sites there, the familiars, and partly in London.
01:17And that Christmas gig at the Chichester Inn has been a slot for you for years, hasn't
01:21it?
01:23Well, since I've moved down here, yeah, it's a good night. We have two bands, us and a
01:28brand, and we've got a DJ, it's open until midnight, it's Christmas, there's drink behind
01:34the bar, what could go wrong?
01:37And you've got a slightly sad Christmas single as well, then?
01:39Slightly sad, but it's funny. Funny enough, it got reviewed on a radio station last week,
01:48and it got Record of the Week, and it actually recently got Record of the Week because it
01:53made everyone laugh, because it is funny as well. Besides being sad, it's funny as well.
01:59Well, it sounds great. Lovely to speak to you, hope the gig goes brilliantly. Thank
02:02you.
02:03Thanks a lot, Phil, and I'll see you lot down there, and perhaps we'll see you one day,
02:07Phil.
02:08Certainly hope so. Thank you.
