00:00Can you just tell me about the 12 dips of Christmas challenge that you're doing and why you've decided to do it?
00:06So the 12 dips of Christmas is to raise some money for Cancer Research UK
00:13which is a charity very close to our hearts after the passing away of my dad approximately five years ago.
00:19And what do you remember of your grandad then Martha, what sort of person was he?
00:23He was a very funny parent.
00:26And what was, sorry?
00:28A loving person.
00:29What is the challenge actually involved and where do you go to do it?
00:32So we're doing all of our dips at Seaham Slope Beach at Seaham Harbour Marina
00:39which is where we've been cold water dipping for a number of months now
00:44since we joined up a local group there called the Seaham Seaside Swimmers.
00:49And how many of the 12 dips have you done so far and when's the last one going to be?
00:53So we've done three dips so far and we're hoping to finish the challenge hopefully on Christmas Day.
01:00And Martha what's it like when you go in the water?
01:02Freezing.
01:04Do you enjoy it though?
01:05Yeah.
01:06And when you're in there do you both think about your grandad and your dad?
01:09I do yeah.
01:10Yeah when it's cold and it's getting a bit tough we definitely think of him for inspiration.
01:16And hopefully raise lots of money for Cancer Research UK?
01:19Yeah we've set a small target of £150 so far including gift aid we're well over £1600.
01:26So we've absolutely smashed the target that we set and hopefully we can get a bit more before Christmas.
01:32Hello everybody I'm Martha and today is dip one out of our 12 dips of Christmas challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
01:43Thank you very much everyone for your kind and generous donations so far.
01:48We've absolutely smashed our fundraising target that we set initially.
01:52But we do want to keep on going and raise as much money as possible to make a difference to as many people's lives as we possibly can.
02:01Thanks very much and keep on donating if you can.
