Parliamentary Special Select Committee chairmen are being allowed to present their reports in the Dewan Rakyat for the first time as part of checks and balances to the executive.

Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said the respective chairmen could brief MPs on their reports, as well as explain their roles and functions in handling current issues.

00:02As I announced on July 17, 2024,
00:07elected officials are given the opportunity to make statements
00:12about the statements of the elected officials
00:15which were put forward in the House of Representatives
00:17to give a broad explanation and coverage to the people
00:21about the functions and roles of the elected officials
00:24in discussing current issues.
00:27The statement by the elected officials
00:31was carried out through the 14.1L Agreement
00:36which was read together with the 25th Agreement
00:39and the Majlis-Masyarat-Dewan Rakyat Agreement.
00:43Since then, starting today,
00:46I have authorized the statements of the elected officials.
00:53Each statement by the elected officials
00:55is given 7 minutes
00:57with 4 speakers
00:59consisting of 2 government officials and 2 deputies.
01:04Each speaker is given 3 minutes
01:07and then the elected officials will answer for 5 minutes.
01:11Unprecedented.
01:13This is the first time
01:15we want to raise the level of power of special election.
01:21Therefore, I ask the elected officials
01:24to play a greater role
01:27to ensure that this council functions
01:32as a balance to the executives.
