Aliya Fakhri, the younger sister of actress Nargis Fakhri, has been accused of deliberately setting a garage ablaze, leading to the deaths of her ex-boyfriend and his friend.

00:00Nargis Fakhri's sister Alia Fakhri was indicted for first-degree murder and related charges
00:07after she allegedly set fire to a garage, killing her ex-boyfriend and his friend.
00:12According to a statement released by Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz,
00:16Alia allegedly reached 35-year-old Edward Jacobs' home in New York
00:21at around 6.20 a.m. on 2nd November.
00:24She then yelled,
00:25you're all going to die today, before setting fire to the detached garage.
00:30Jacobs' friend Anastasia Etienne noticed the fire when she came downstairs
00:35and rushed back upstairs to save her sleeping friend.
00:39While firefighters brought the blaze under control by 7.30 a.m.,
00:43the two were unable to escape and died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
00:48Jacobs' mother, Janet, said he and Alia broke up a year ago,
00:53but she kept trying to reconcile with him.
00:56He's been trying to tell her to leave him alone for the past year,
00:59but she wasn't accepting the rejection, she told the New York Post.
01:04Jacobs is survived by his 11-year-old twin boys and a 9-year-old son.
01:09Alia was indicted by a grand jury for four counts of murder in the first degree,
01:14four counts of murder in the second degree,
01:16and one count each of arson in the first degree and arson in the second degree.
01:20She could face a life sentence if convicted of the most serious charge.
01:25Alia pleaded non-guilty to the charges and was being held in the Rose M. Singer Center
01:30on Rikers Island at the time of publishing the story.
01:34Her next court date was on 9 December.
01:36While Nargis has not reacted to the news yet,
01:39her mother Marie expressed disbelief over the allegations.
01:42I don't think she would be killing someone, she told New York Daily News,
01:46adding that Alia was a person who was caring for everybody.
01:50She added that Alia struggled with opioid addiction, which may have influenced her behavior.
