00:00Well, an anti-climax to what the matches we've had in the last seven games, all were close
00:06games, but this was a match where we expected runs to be scored.
00:17Hi guys, welcome once again to Straight Back with Mr Cricket UAE, that's Anis Sajjan and
00:22Golf News. We've had another cracker again tonight, unlike all the other games so far,
00:27but first of all, let's say hi to Anis and see how he's getting on.
00:30Hi Matt and hi beautiful people of Golf News community. As we always say every day,
00:36log on to our Facebook page of Golf News, enter the competition and predict the winner and you
00:40walk away with this beautiful jacket. Rather two winners get this jacket as well as three
00:44months of subscription. Matt? Thank you for calling us beautiful. I just want to say that
00:52it was, I think in our prediction last night or in our preview last night, we said we highlighted
01:04the Chennai bowling problems and the really strong Punjab batting, completely opposite
01:11that happened today. Punjab's batting was absolutely terrible. Chennai's, especially
01:18with Chahar, really showed that they can bowl when they need to and obviously it was a very,
01:24very low scoring match. Punjab 106 and Chennai getting there with many overs to spare. They
01:30could have got there a lot earlier had they not struggled in the death overs. Well, not death
01:34overs, but their own death overs. So quickly, Anis, we'll start with you. What's your take on
01:40what was a very strange match? Well, an anti-climax to what the matches we've had in the last seven
01:46games, all were close games. But this was a match where we expected runs to be scored. But I
01:52remember during the wicket, they said it's a fresh wicket. And even Dhoni had said that the Mumbai
01:56wicket does a bit in the early few years. So you've got to make sure that you see of that three,
02:00four overs, then probably attack or up the anti. Whereas Deepak Chahar was all over Punjab and the
02:06ball which he got, Mayank, I believe was the ball of the tournament. It's sung late and all the
02:13Punjab batsmen were at sea. Early call for ball of the tournament. Interesting. Sahil, what's your
02:21take on the match then? You should probably, for once, have got a smile on your face. Oh yeah,
02:26very happy for the Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni. You know, yeah, maybe Deepak Chahar may
02:32have got four good wickets, but it all started after Ravindra Jadeja got that extraordinary
02:37run out on KL Rahul and taking a sharp catch on Chris Gayle from there. They were just looking
02:42unstoppable. But also that ball, which was the wicket of Mayank Agarwal, unplayable ball. So
02:48credit to both Chahar and Jadeja. They led it from the front to make their team win today.
02:54Okay. And Gautam, hi to you over in India. Obviously, you were there
03:01firsthand as you were doing the live updates. How do you see that?
03:06And what's the impact on two teams that have had a very contrasting match to their last one?
03:13Yes, I think Chennai needed to put up their first points on the board. And Chahar is a bowler,
03:20you know, he still has the best figures in international cricket in a T20 game.
03:27It came against Bangladesh. He's a guy who can work up a lively pace. And if he gets that little
03:32movement, you know, he can move the ball both ways. As Anish was saying, that delivery
03:38which took Mayank was possibly the delivery of the tournament so far. So that was a blow from
03:44where Punjab never quite recovered. And the writing was on the wall. When Chennai came into bat,
03:51the two senior pros, Moeen and Faf, they went about the job without any fuss. Then, you know,
03:58I don't know whether, you know, they wanted the match to go into the 15th over or something.
04:03But it was always on the cards.
04:07Make it to the next ad break, guys. Anish, the one thing is like you've got to imagine is like,
04:15had Khan not come in with his 47, that could have been one of the low scores of
04:21IPL history. You know, he's just one man is the guy that kind of got them into triple figures.
04:28Oh, yes. He played well. And he's, you know, he was touted well to be doing well in the domestic
04:34cricket also. That's why he was picked by Punjab, Shah Rukh Khan. And his innings actually was a
04:39saving grace for Punjab. Otherwise, they wouldn't have even made 100. But I want to say on one fact,
04:44which Gautam also mentioned, you know, that when you know that the wicket is doing good,
04:49and when you've lost Mayank early through a feature for delivery, the other batsmen should
04:52have probably seen that new ball of Chahar because Dhoni uses him up fairly early, makes his four
04:57overs right at the front. And it's easy to say now, but T20 is not all about flamboyant cricket.
05:04Sometimes you have to respect the condition, you have to respect the bowlers. And a score of 140,
05:09we saw yesterday, almost Rajasthan struggled. You never know what would have happened if they
05:13would have put 140 plus because they had a good pace attack Punjab too.
05:17Yeah. And Sahil, obviously, and there's one guy that you'd want to talk about,
05:22how Faf doing his thing? And as you say, keeping a cool head in the chase?
05:27I mean, yeah, he's a veteran of the game. And he took it easy because after the opener,
05:32Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring five runs of 16 balls, he was really making a mess. So after him getting
05:37out Faf and Moeen really took the game away from Punjab, both using their experience to lead the
05:43chase. And yeah, as you said, they wanted to get another ad break, it felt like.
05:50And then, yeah, just, I mean, obviously they clearly took the foot off the gas.
05:53They knew the game was won. Gautam and Anis, I mean, you must have seen this before in the many
06:00years that you've been watching the tournament. What's the thinking behind that? Do you want to
06:05try and just see through it quite easily? Or why did they not get this game done 20 minutes earlier?
06:18I think one, which Anis gave a hint to in the previous question that conditions were not
06:25particularly easy to bat on, which had Gaikwad doing a wet and watch in the initial stages.
06:33But after that, there were no need for any heroics. Like if you want to do heroics and make
06:38a fool of yourself, because finally quite a few things come into play. The net 100 comes into play
06:45for which you've got a point, they ought to have finished it earlier. But you know, the guys who
06:50are out in the middle, they know better. Maybe when Shami came on and when Meredith came on,
06:55he worked up a lively pace. So as long as they got their two points, it was fine.
07:01There's still a lot of days.
07:02Oh, yeah. No, I mean, obviously, there's no criticism of the Chennai show today. It was just
07:05that, where did they go? Where did they go to finish? It was just that little bit of the end.
07:12Yeah, I mean, Anis, if you've got nothing else either to say about that one, or if Sahil wants
07:20to gloat a little bit more, we can look ahead to another interesting match tomorrow where
07:26a certain defending champion Mumbai are up against the Sunrisers. It's
07:34an interesting one. I think we'll all agree that there's one favourite, but
07:37maybe not. Anis, what's your take on tomorrow without being slightly biased?
07:43Yeah, first of all, I want to say congratulations, Sahil. Finally, your team is off the mark.
07:48You seem to be blushing. Don't want to show it, but it's a clinical win.
07:52Coming to tomorrow's game, obviously, Mumbai go in as favourites because of that comeback
07:57victory against KKR. And Hyderabad has yet to get off the mark. But we are playing on that slow
08:02wicket. You have to always remember, in Hyderabad, they have one trump card, which is Rashid Khan.
08:07You can never underestimate him. He's one bowler who can win the match single-handedly. And if he
08:13has a great day, he can probably run through Mumbai. But definitely, Mumbai go into the
08:17match as favourites. Cool. Sahil?
08:23I don't want to say Mumbai, but it's clear that they are most probably the favourites to win the
08:30game. And Sunrisers are coming with no confidence, but obviously, they'll be rooting for a victory.
08:36So I guess we'll have to just go for Mumbai, though.
08:41Okay. And Gautam?
08:43Yeah, I think, yes, I mean, it's difficult to look beyond Mumbai. One thing, if David Warner
08:50wins the toss, I think by after two games, he must have learnt it the hard way that he should,
08:56you know, putting up a brisk start. That's their forte with him coming out to open. That's what
09:03they should try and do. Runs on the board, runs on the board. And then you're looking at around
09:09150-160 total kind of a match.
09:15Yeah, and those scores have been fairly defendable so far this season. Especially,
09:19as you say, on these tracks, it may be different once you move around on this
09:23strange setup we've got this year with nobody playing at home and things. But yeah, we shall
09:29see tomorrow. Well, thank you very much, guys, again, as usual, for your dedicated post-match
09:35analysis. And we'll see everybody again tomorrow for the match. We're always here every match.
09:42And like I said, don't forget to log on to our Facebook page at Golf News and you can get a
09:49chance to pick up one of these nice tracksuits. And also, I'm a three-month subscription to
09:54Golf News. And yeah, all you've got to do is pick who you think is going to win each match. And then
10:02if you're out of the hat, then you get a chance to win.
10:05Well, thanks very much, everybody, for listening. And we'll see you all tomorrow.
10:09Thank you. Thank you, Gautam. Thank you, Sahil. We'll catch you tomorrow for the Mumbai game.
10:15Good night. Bye-bye.
