You wonder why your motorcycle is so heavy.
While I rebuilt and individualize my 2009 Kawasaki KLX 250 S, I decided to weigh each part, as I wanted to know this and I guess for a lot of motorcycle rider it´s a hot topic too.
As for 2021 there is a Kawasaki KLX 300 out which is pretty close to the 250, I hope it´s a nice help for endless discussions at your pub or on the trail with your friends or a helpful list to see possibilities for weight reduction and calculation for aluminum, titanium or carbon fibre parts.
The KLX was close to original when I purchased second hand- only a tail tidy, smaller rear tire, aftermarket mirrors and rear brake disc, so I could not weight this OEM parts.
Some parts where really used like front brake pads and disc, so new parts are slightly heavier.
It´s probably not working for a 1200cc Harley, but I think still interesting to get an idea why a Motorcycle is as heavy as it is.
Most parts I have weighed with a scales measuring exactly down to 5g, for some tiny parts I used a letter scales.
