00:00Your blood type is an important marker if you're injured and end up in the hospital.
00:04According to a new study, the type of blood flowing through your veins could also predispose
00:08you to certain ailments. Specifically, strokes. The meta-analysis looked at 48 other genetic
00:13studies, which included data from more than 600,000 individuals, finding that those who
00:18had blood type A, most notably those with subgroup A1, were more likely to have a stroke
00:22before the age of 60 than other blood types. Those with blood type A had a 16% higher chance
00:27of stroke before reaching that age, but researchers say you shouldn't be alarmed by these results,
00:31even if you happen to have blood type A. They say they can't say exactly why they found higher
00:36stroke numbers amongst that blood type, but add quote, it likely has something to do with
00:40blood clotting factors like platelets and cells that line the blood vessels, as well as other
00:44circulating proteins, all of which play a role in the development of blood clots. Conversely,
00:49the study also found that those with blood type O, specifically subgroup O1, had a 12%
00:54lower risk of stroke than most other blood types.
