00:00After getting together in 2020, actress Shailene Woodley and NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers
00:06called off their engagement back in February 2022. It seems Woodley is still in the process
00:11of figuring out just what went wrong. In a December 2024 interview with Outside, Woodley
00:17implied that her breakup with Rodgers traumatized her. She said, not naming the NFL star,
00:23I had a really awful, traumatic thing happen in early 2022. I felt like I lost my soul,
00:28myself, my happiness, my joy. I really understood depression and anxiety and, like, complete
00:34soul detachment."
00:36Woodley said that her empathetic nature, which she's spoken about at length in other interviews,
00:40quote,
00:41"...kind of kept me in the sloop of feeling everything for everyone."
00:44The actress did go on to refer to Rodgers by name, though, and admitted that she withheld
00:48details about the breakup from the public. Apparently, it was all just too hard for her.
00:53She said,
00:54I haven't shared much about my relationship with Aaron because it always makes me cry.
00:59Woodley didn't go into a whole lot of detail about what made her and her former beau, now
01:03the starting quarterback for the New York Jets, go their separate ways. But The Secret
01:07Life of the American Teenager star did heavily imply that it wasn't a healthy relationship,
01:12saying,
01:13It was not right, but it was beautiful.
01:16While Woodley didn't get her happy ending with Rodgers, she still has hopes of having
01:19children one day. She told Outside that one of her biggest dreams is to be a mom. At one
01:24time, it seemed as though Rodgers was ready to take the leap into parenthood with her.
01:29He hasn't said much about Woodley since the breakup, but in March 2021, he noted in an
01:34Instagram Live interview with Zenith Watches that lots of his friends from high school
01:38and college were becoming dads. As for him?
01:41Maybe not in the immediate future, but definitely something that I really look forward to."
01:46Woodley has also spoken about what parenthood means to her. In 2019, she sat down with her
01:52fellow cast members from Big Little Lies and shared her philosophy on motherhood, discussing
01:57how parents and kids enrich each other's lives.
01:59What can you provide and allow yourself to be provided for, and then how can you also
02:05give back?"
02:06Though it's clear Woodley is still experiencing some heartache from her breakup with Rodgers,
02:11her career, at least, seems to be going pretty well at the moment. In addition to landing
02:15a role in Cult of Love, her first-ever Broadway production, Woodley's also enjoying being
02:20in the cast of the Starz series Three Women, letting her hair go wild. She wrote on Instagram
02:25in October,
02:26"'One of my favorite things about playing Gia in Three Women was finally letting my
02:30lion hair roar for a character. Thank you mom plus grandpa for the hair jeans.'"
02:36On December 2nd, Woodley appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she confirmed
02:40that she's slated to star in a Long in the Works biopic about the life of the late singer
02:44Janis Joplin.
02:45"'We've been working on it for seven years now, and it's just, she's so, she's such a
02:51groovy chick, man.'"
02:53Even more exciting, Woodley revealed that she'll actually be singing in the film. She
02:57admitted that she couldn't mimic Joplin's voice, so the movie's music producer Linda
03:01Perry helped her find her own version of the singer's style. On top of all that, she
03:05also said it's likely that Big Little Lies will be getting a third season, though it's
03:09not clear yet when that will happen.
