New challenges for the Big J
Transcript
00:00I'm happy to be here.
00:05It's actually my own personal desire to reach out and thank all those who have made me a
00:12part of their lives, especially when it comes to sports.
00:16Even if I'm not personally active in sports, my heart and mind is always there.
00:22And when I was playing, every day was a new challenge.
00:25I never stopped thinking of how to improve my game or to improve my teammates' or my
00:32players' games.
00:34It's funny, though, that an understanding of the game is not really some understanding
00:38for the others.
00:39When you play, it's different to be tough than rough.
00:43Toughness and roughness are two different words.
00:45When you play rough, then there are the officials of the game that must handle that properly.
00:53But when you play tough, the outcome will all depend on how your opponent is going to
00:58be tougher than you are.
01:00And I stay with that second option.
01:01I'm tough, given the right situation.
01:03The basic idea of this thought, lahingi nebra, lahingi jaworshki, is the fact that, number
01:10one, never say never.
01:12I've seen so many hopeless cases, not only in games, but in life, where the sheer determination
01:19and the word persistence makes it happen.
01:22And so this is what I believe that they have continued to emulate, if at all.
01:27That would be enough word.
01:28First, you've got to do some great preparation in anything.
01:31What comes with that is the word commitment.
01:34Glory in games, particularly in the standards or in the challenges of the Olympics, will
01:41have to go beyond money and pain, way, way beyond.
01:45Because you have people who desire, and it's probably only objective in life is that.
01:54And if you fall short to their kind of commitment, then you'll not be close anywhere there.
02:03The difficulties are present.
02:05The other countries have had well-planned programs set towards achievement.
02:14And so you've got to catch up.
02:15But beyond that, you must understand the word commitment and the understanding that what
02:21is important is for you to give your utmost best without necessarily thinking of your
02:27personal glory.
02:29And that means sometimes sacrificing the glory that could have been only yours.
02:33The team, let's say with 12 or 15 individuals that have a solid desire to win, will make
02:41it because then there is an understanding of what the goals are and how to make that
02:47goal happen.
02:48I love the sport because it was great.
02:51It's poetry in motion because you can do so many things with the proper imagination and
02:57proper preparation.
02:59It's enjoyable to watch because there are things you can do with finesse or with toughness
03:05and it still comes out great.
03:06Teaching younger people gives you so much joy because the eagerness is there, but of
03:12course they're not ready.
03:14So your patience is going to be tested.
03:18And that's where the challenge and the fulfillment comes.
