00:00Good evening and welcome to The Business Rap, I'm Ed Clowes and the top headlines this
00:07evening are Apple's unveiling of its latest products last night in Brooklyn.
00:13A green MacBook, the greenest MacBook ever according to CEO Tim Cook who said that the
00:18latest MacBook Air is made from 100% recycled aluminium, tin and plastic.
00:25Also at the show was a new Mac Mini and an iPad Pro. However, unlike analysts' expectations
00:31of a new affordable product range, the new products were actually significantly more
00:36expensive. The latest MacBook Air will retail for $1,199 whilst the two iPad Pros and Mac
00:44Minis will retail for around $800. That's somewhere in the region of 3,000 Dirham.
00:50On the same day that Apple was displaying its latest products, Etty Salat here at home
00:55said that they would be launching the new eSIM. An eSIM essentially allows you to have
00:59two mobile phone numbers in the same phone and removes the need for a physical SIM card.
01:05No tariffs were available immediately so we don't have any idea about pricing just yet
01:10but those details will become available shortly and we will of course update you when they
01:14do.
01:15Meanwhile, the public tussle between India's central bank and the government continued
01:19for yet another day with New Delhi emphasising the central bank's independence to calm investor
01:24nerves.
01:25The local media in India is reporting that the government has invoked a number of as
01:29of yet unused powers over the central bank on matters of public interest. The central
01:35bank has yet to comment but social media and local media reports are swirling that the
01:40central bank governor is considering resignation. The rupee fell to a near all-time low as a
01:45result.
01:46Elsewhere in the markets, stocks rebounded slightly on Wednesday as Facebook comfortably
01:50beat earnings expectations for its Q3 results. The third quarter of course was a scandal-ridden
01:56one for the social media giant but analysts were impressed by its ability to regain profit
02:02margins and to monetise the Instagram and WhatsApp platforms, although concerns remain
02:09over stalling user growth and engagement levels.
02:12That was the business wrap for Wednesday the 31st of October. I'm Ed Clouds and this is
02:17Golf News. Thanks for listening.
