00:00Hi.
00:08Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're looking at League references and Easter Eggs in Arcane.
00:15We'll be covering both Seasons 1 and 2, so this is your spoiler alert.

00:39about our latest videos.
00:44Brambleback Code Phrase
00:46Darting through the shafts beneath Jace's lab in Season 2, Episode 2, Heimerdinger
00:51references a jungle monster very familiar to players thanks to the red Brambleback on
00:56Summoner's Rift.
01:06This one gave us a good chuckle.
01:08Want more jungle monsters?
01:10Singed traps a greater Merc Wolf to create Warwick.
01:14Jinx and Aisha's bugs Stink Maw and Scuttlebutt are tongue-in-cheek references to Vilemaw
01:19and Scuttlecrabs.
01:28Oh, and did you notice that the Kiramans hunt raptors?
01:46You can see this in a family portrait in Season 1 and a mounted raptor head in Season 2.
01:55While most of Arcane's protagonists are league champions, that still means that only about
01:59a dozen of the game's 169 playable characters appear on screen, at least in the flesh.
02:06However, there are plenty of references to them.
02:09The Wind Spirit Janna, aka Zahn's guardian, can be spotted in a mural in Season 2, Episode
02:162, as destitute Zahnites pray for aid.
02:19We see another depiction of Janna in the next episode when Jinx lures Vi and Caitlyn into
02:24a subterranean chamber.
02:26Jinx even references Janna's elemental powers.
02:49Season 1 culminated in Jinx firing on Piltover with her signature rocket launcher, Fishbone,
02:54in Season 2.
03:10This weapon was actually foreshadowed back in Act 1.
03:13Powder has a similarly shaped pillow, and we see designs for the weapon in her drawings.
03:19At the time, only league fans would have recognized these.
03:23Seems like she's been dreaming about Fishbones for quite a while.
03:27On Powder's wooden box is another easter egg, wings that might reference Jinx's star guardian
03:33skin.
03:40Number 17, Klager's Goggles
03:42Obviously, no one missed Klager's goggles.
03:52They're right there on his head, but what only league fans would have noticed is that
03:56these are part of Vi's league character design.
03:59We see them again in Jinx's hideout, where dolls of Klager and Milo keep her company.
04:11In Season 2, Vi retrieves these goggles while hunting for her estranged sister, and adds
04:16them to her gear in the next episode.
04:19Number 16, Pentakill Tattoo
04:23The logo for Riot Games' virtual heavy metal band first pops up in Season 1, Episode 1,
04:28Graffitied on a wall.
04:30It makes a more notable appearance in Episode 4, where we see the state of Zaun now that
04:35Silco has taken over.
04:37A hulking figure is getting the Pentakill logo tattooed on his back.
04:41Now that's a fan.
04:43Also in this sequence, by the way, there's a sign to the right of a Chem Baron sucking
04:47in pure air that reads, Harold's Palace, which could be a reference to the Rift Herald.
04:53Number 15, Raven Familiar
05:03According to Arcane showrunner Christian Link, a future spin-off will explore Noxus, Ionia,
05:09and Demacia.
05:10Mel's arc also seems to be heading towards Noxus.
05:14In lore, Noxus is ruled by Swain, arguably the big bad of the League universe.
05:20Thanks to his pact with the Demon of Secrets, Rom, Swain can summon demonic ravens.
05:26A mysterious six-eyed raven appears in Arcane, seemingly rummaging for Hextech.
05:32Was it sent by the Grand General, or Rom himself?
05:35We'll have to wait and see.
05:37The monsters of today will be the heroes of tomorrow.
05:42And by my hand will Noxus rise once more.
05:50Jarvan IV
05:51Speaking of regions to be explored in a spin-off, Arcane's second season also had a few easter
05:56eggs alluding to the exemplar of Demacia, Jarvan IV.
06:00A play in Piltover apparently dramatizes Jarvan's coronation.
06:05We see banners featuring his face, and a replica of his crown on stage.
06:10We wish we could watch that play, but we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed that
06:15the royal himself does indeed show up for the spin-off.
06:1813.
06:19Kindred Masks
06:20Here's a cunning nod to yet another champion.
06:25In Season 1, a quick shot shows a man and woman wearing the wolf and lamb mask of Kindred,
06:31the Spirit of Death.
06:32Fans have suggested that the man is the same person who later bestows his services to Ambessa.
06:38There's surely some symbolism there, given Ambessa's obsession with being merciless like
06:46a wolf, which has given rise to ample theories on Reddit for those who wish to dig a little
06:51deeper.
06:5212.
06:53Gentleman Chogoth
06:54This was truly a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.
06:59After Powder accidentally dumps the gang's loot in the series' first episode, the dejected
07:04crew enter a dilapidated building.
07:16Inside is an elevator that descends into the Undercity.
07:19Eagle-eyed viewers will have noted something curious about the paintings on the wall in
07:24the entryway.
07:25One of them is a portrait of Champion Chogoth, specifically the Voidborn's beast skin, Gentleman
07:32Chogoth, released in 2010.
07:3511.
07:36Caitlyn's 90-Caliber Net
07:44When Caitlyn turns Vi over to Ambessa in Season 2, Episode 6, it turns out to be a clever
07:50ruse.
07:51Beforehand, Caitlyn has handed Vi a device to use on the Matriarch of War, her 90-caliber
07:56net from Lee.
07:58Once freed from her handcuffs, Vi punches the net into Ambessa.
08:03Arguably, the season also gave us Caitlyn's ult, Ace in the Hole, which other Champions
08:08can intercept to save a teammate, as Vi does, in a way, to prevent Aisha from becoming an
08:14accidental kill.
08:1510.
08:16Echo's Weapon
08:17Season 2 saw Echo invent the Zero Drive that gives him the temporal powers we know from
08:18Lee.
08:19In the series finale, he uses these abilities against Victor and his machine army.
08:20This power was foreshadowed by the fact that Lee's ability does cast a shadow over him.
08:26Even though he's the first to learn this ability, he never learned to use it.
08:35But Vader was able to take advantage of this ability and reach out to the Matriarch of
08:41War, only to be immobilized.
08:46This power was foreshadowed in his season 1 fight with Jinx, where his mind flashes back to their play fights as kids, allowing him to anticipate her reactions.
08:58The series finale also had him finally getting his signature melee weapon, the hand of a clock tower.
09:16Players know Victor as the Machine Herald, so it was a treat when Jinx coined the alias in season 2's 6th episode.
09:28Another neat nod came when Victor used the words, Glorious Evolution, recalling the phrase he utters when players pick him in League.
09:46He refers to Glorious Evolution again in a later episode, sealing the concept to his character.
09:59We are one. This is the Glorious Evolution.
10:07Among the Revered Inventor's niftiest inventions are of course his turrets. We glimpse one of these at work in the 2nd episode of season 2.
10:21But instead of firing deadly projectiles, this one is blowing bubbles to amuse refugees in the Firelight Hideout.
10:28Bubbles aside, the basic design resembles Heimerdinger's H2-3G Evolution turret, which turns out to be a lot more versatile than we thought.
10:38Benzo's shop in season 1 is a treasure trove of easter eggs. One of the most exciting hangs right over the door, the helmet of Tryndamere, the Barbarian King.
10:58Meanwhile, Benzo is examining the Heart of Gold, a gold generating item retired from the game in 2012.
11:05On a shelf sits Rabadon's Deathcap, showing that Benzo is running quite the shop.
11:11When Echo spies on his conversation, you can spot an Eye of the Oasis, alongside three masks.
11:17The one on the left looks a bit like Jynx, the middle like the item Liandry's Anguish, and the one on the right like a Bloodmoon mask.
11:27Jynx's League debut in 2013 was commemorated with the song Get Jynxed, by Agnetha Sjöslund from the band Jerv.
11:48The awesome animation for the music video was done by none other than Fortiche, the same studio that produced Arcane.
11:55In season 1, Jynx is bopping along to just that song in her hideout. In season 2, we hear another quick snippet coming from Savika's arm.
12:11Savika may not be impressed, but Jynx is definitely a fan. Jerv has a song on the second season's soundtrack by the way, Rebel Heart.
12:25Who's the mysterious sorceress representing the Black Rose? While it isn't explicitly revealed in the show, we can make a pretty good guess.
12:40In lore, the matron of the Black Rose is the champion LeBlanc, whose distinct eye makeup we seem to glimpse in Arcane's season 2 episode 5.
12:49The thorny chains this shadowy figure throws out resemble red versions of LeBlanc's ethereal chains. A further connection is LeBlanc's nickname, the Deceiver.
13:07There were already signs in season 1 connecting Vander and the uncaged Wrath of Zaun. The champion was once a human who put down his blade to live a better life.
13:18After Singed's experiments, he only remembers blood and a little girl screaming. Season 2 confirms the connection.
13:26This makes sense of Warwick's in-game dialogue to Jynx. You were there, and let me forget.
13:33The show dramatized some of the jungler's abilities, including his W, Blood Hunt. We might also be seeing his ult, Infinite Duress, when he tears into Riktus.
13:48Arcane did an incredible job of humanizing its characters, including its villains. In original League lore, Singed and Orianna are unrelated characters.
14:04After Orianna fell ill, her father, an artificer named Cullen Rebic, replaced her body parts with clockwork to keep her alive.
14:12Eventually, Orianna abandoned her father, leaving him with a golden dancer that needs no key.
14:18Arcane retcons this so that Singed is Cullen Rebic, rounding out his character. You really had to know the lore to recognize what the writers had done here.
14:28Precisely what are you trying to cure?
14:34That affliction we all suffer. Death.
14:41Number 2, Team Logos.
14:43The level of detail in Arcane is mind-blowing. The passion and dedication of Fortiche Studio shows in every frame.
14:52And that goes beyond the animation and narrative to numerous little nods for League players.
14:57In a parallel world, as Echo wanders across the Bridge of Progress between Zaun and Piltover, we see a wheel marked with mysterious symbols.
15:05These are actually the logos of League of Legends esports teams, including some of the top worlds teams.
15:12Go spin the wheel and see where it lands.
15:18Number 1, Hints of Teemo.
15:20While the Swift Scout doesn't bounce onto the screen in Arcane, we do see an illustration of his furry face as Silco's henchman browses through a book in Season 1.
15:30Season 2 gave us a few more easter eggs.
15:33The Yordle is depicted on the wall of the arcade where Vander's fosterlings used to hang out.
15:39Esha's hat closely resembles Teemo's, complete with goggles.
15:43And Savika's slot machine arm features mushrooms that recall Teemo's puff caps.
15:48Which of these did you catch?
15:50Did you notice any we missed?
15:52Tell us in the comments.
