00:07from 2015 Indiana Teacher of the Year to Sagamore of the Wabash recipient.
00:12While honored, she measures her successes as an educator through her everyday interactions.
00:17What draws us to this profession is the opportunity to influence young lives
00:22and help them grow stronger and better and more able to, you know, to reach into their future.
00:28At a young age, Kathy began to lose her vision.
00:30In school, she relied on her teachers to read.
00:32That impact is what inspired her to become an educator herself.
00:36That was my first introduction to what an educator does in that one-on-one environment,
00:42and I just knew I wanted to be that kind of a help for someone else.
00:47Outside the classroom, Kathy enjoys writing, making jewelry, and going on walks with her guide dog.
00:52She's looking forward to what the next chapter will bring.
00:54My whole adult life, I've been a TSC educator,
00:58so I want to figure out who that person is and what ways I can give my gifts to others in a different way.
01:04As she looks back on her career, Kathy believes living authentically
01:08and doing things that bring you joy will help you overcome obstacles.
01:11Just make sure you always feed your soul.
01:14Fill up with the things that matter the most to you so you can be the best for your students.
