00:00Shireen Samson-Vallaboy, a 400-metre record-holder in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
00:20One of Shireen's transformations to become a more versatile and complete runner is to participate in the 100-metre sprint.
00:28One of the main reasons why Malaysian athlete Azim Fahmi chose Universal Sports in Paris 2024
00:34is because it only offers the 100- and 800-metre sprint.
00:39If Shireen were in the same situation as in the previous episode,
00:44she is optimistic about the fact that KUAM chose her to LA due to her ability to participate in the event.
00:50Six months after Shireen's dream of going to the Paris Olympics,
00:54she did not become a 26-year-old runner.
00:57That opened the story in a difficult moment with reporter Karl Nunez.
01:24So I keep encouraging myself that way.
01:27And then I actually got the news in Asian University Games after we ran the 4x4.
01:34I was really happy for Azim.
01:37In the same time, I was really sad that I didn't make it.
01:40So it was actually a really difficult day for me.
01:43I was talking to my parents. I was talking to my coach.
01:46They really had to lift me up.
01:48I was really sad. I was crying the whole day.
01:50Of course, the goal is my event is the 400m.
01:53I want to make it in the event.
01:55But I think with this year's event, I should always have plan B and moving on forward.
02:01So probably the Olympics here, as I'm running the 400m,
02:05I might run 100m here and there and work on my speed as well.
02:08I believe I have really good speed.
02:10So on that year, I'll start competing more 100m.
02:13So I'll get the opportunity to have that plan laid out if things don't work out for me.
02:19It really woke me up and made me feel like I've got to get it done every single year
02:24and make sure I train well and get stronger.
02:28So it really put that fire in me, even though it was a really hard moment,
02:31knowing the news that I didn't make it.
