00:00I got a phone call at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning from our forester.
00:11It sounded very, very strange.
00:15First of all, the forester said,
00:18Boss, there is no forest.
00:21He repeated it several times and put me on the phone.
00:24It was Saturday morning, a long weekend.
00:27The information about the storm that came to our area.
00:31I got dressed, got in the car and went to work.
00:35What did you notice in the forest?
00:37Passing through the forest complexes of the neighboring countryside,
00:42where I live, I thought that it would not look so bad.
00:46Only when I arrived in the vicinity of Żejnowa
00:49and saw our forest here under the nest,
00:52I realized what it looks like.
00:54I was very scared, my skin was a little wrinkled.
00:57I did not know how far it would go.
01:00Only the workers who came here.
01:03In the morning we gathered in front of me
01:05near the forestry building.
01:07We started to turn on the phones,
01:09communication with the foresters.
01:11We tried to contact each other to find out what the damage was.
01:15We pulled out the maps, took the car
01:18and drove around our area.
01:20Only then did the whole picture of the destruction appear.
01:24We applied it to the maps,
01:26more or less, what is the range, what is the range.
01:29We multiplied it by hectares,
01:31which are destroyed in our management.
01:34A terrible number came out,
01:36then about 800,000.
01:38Unfortunately, it is all 800,000 cubic meters of wood,
01:42which was destroyed,
01:44i.e. on an area of more than 4,000 hectares.
01:48Most of them were losses of 100%,
01:51that is, they were about to be removed.
01:54It's hard to imagine something like that,
01:57I just want to face it.
02:00Shock, disbelief, what emotions accompanied you?
02:04I think that shock, disbelief,
02:07there was no time for some strong...
02:13thinking about it all,
02:16suddenly a number of problems arose,
02:19which had to be solved.
02:21At the moment, we had to make decisions
02:24related, firstly, to the security of these areas,
02:27secondly, with respect for the damage,
02:30thirdly, with the availability of the area
02:33and with the organization of all this, how to proceed,
02:36because here our area was haunted.
02:39There were bigger storms, storms,
02:41we had some losses every year,
02:43in 2007 we had 40,000 cubic meters of damaged,
02:46recovered after the storms,
02:49so we were already dealing with some losses
02:52caused by atmospheric spaces,
02:55we had to remove 40 hectares
02:58for the construction of the S5 road,
03:01so we increased the tasks,
03:04and we faced it once,
03:06but we haven't faced something like that yet,
03:09and I hope that we won't have to face such a task
03:12in the near future.
03:14How many hectares of forest did you cut?
03:17In 100%, it turned out,
03:19when we summed it up,
03:21we have in 100% 2250 hectares.
03:24I will only add that every year
03:27the Forestry Department cuts
03:30to its surface, let's say,
03:33within 18,000 hectares,
03:36we cut 100 hectares in 100%
03:402250 hectares, which we cut,
03:43and another 2,000 hectares,
03:46where we had to clean up the forest,
03:49where there were individual or group damages.
03:52How long did it take to clean up the area?
03:55The very first task we faced
03:58was, above all, to make the forest available,
04:01in addition to the security,
04:03which was done immediately on the first day,
04:05that is, the warning boards,
04:07so that nothing happened to anyone,
04:09because it was all overhanging,
04:11very dangerous.
04:13The second step we took
04:15was to make the trees available,
04:17that is, we had to organize a group of workers,
04:19a few people each, a tractor,
04:21to cut all the forest roads
04:23that we needed,
04:25which allowed us to move around this forest,
04:27and access to the place of future work,
04:29and access to the forests as well,
04:31because, of course, the forests are
04:33purely located in the forest,
04:35it was impossible to get there.
04:37In addition, we had to prepare
04:39plans of work for our employees at the same time,
04:43we were hired additionally,
04:45we were hired additionally,
04:47first four employees,
04:49then three more employees,
04:51then we got three or five old men to help,
04:53and we had to organize it all
04:55to get rid of it as soon as possible.
04:58When did the new planting begin?
05:00The first planting,
05:02as far as I remember,
05:04was in the autumn of 2018.
05:07It was the beginning,
05:09such a bold beginning,
05:11where we planted only 12 hectares,
05:13but in the following years
05:15we planted 500-600 hectares
05:17per year on these pruned areas.
05:20The biggest problem here,
05:22on our land,
05:24was caused by the American bush,
05:26which was very expansive,
05:28it is a type of bush
05:30that grew very well in our areas
05:32and very expansively,
05:34due to the lack of competition,
05:36populated these areas
05:38and it made it impossible
05:40to develop our seedlings,
05:42which we wanted to plant.
05:44First we had to cut it all out,
05:46mulch it,
05:48only then we could plow and plant.
05:50When did this planting end?
05:52We finished the planting
05:54only within five years,
05:56in 2023.
05:58At the moment,
06:00we are still in the process
06:02of planting our new forest,
06:04which will last for another 2-3 years,
06:06and then there will be
06:08another care work,
06:10but already in paddocks
06:12or in the remaining free-range.
