00:00I mean obviously Nissan have announced globally there's gonna be like 9,000
00:04jobs cut and we don't know exactly where yet. Nissan is a massive employer in the
00:08area both the factory itself and the subsidiary outlets and one of the big
00:12concerns we know is the the EV targets which I know that they will get fined on
00:16if they don't hit so are those targets being looked at and again can you give
00:20any assurances to people here in Sunderland that you know everything's
00:23going to be done to ensure that there's no job cuts here in the city? Well
00:27obviously it's a worrying time Nissan globally has announced those job cuts
00:32but we're going to work and do everything we can to protect jobs here
00:37in Sunderland. Johnny Reynolds the business secretary has already met with
00:41Nissan to talk about the importance of Sunderland and keeping and protecting
00:46jobs here and I know that Lewis the local MPs and also Kim McGuinness and
00:51the local council are working hard to ensure we keep those jobs and you're
00:56right to mention the electric vehicle mandate we inherited that from the
01:01previous government and although car sales of electric vehicles have gone up
01:05by more than 50% in the last year I know that UK car manufacturers are worried
01:10about those targets and the fines that come if they don't meet them and that's
01:15why we have announced a review of those targets that we inherited as a
01:19government and we'll report soon because I'm determined and this government are
01:23determined to support car manufacturing in Britain and that's why we're looking
01:27again at those targets. And if I can just say I mean six MPs including myself were at
01:32Nissan last week and you know talking to the company and Rachel's absolutely
01:35right you know I think that it's great that the government are doing that work
01:38I think the other thing for any big business like Nissan is also that
01:41economic stability you know actually what will help jobs at Nissan but more
01:45widely is the government's mission around rising living standards and
01:47maintaining economic stability which is as a result of the decisions Rachel took
01:51at the budget.
