00:00We've had the great argument here about whether we should have a border on the mainland. Let me say
00:08to you, I live about five miles from the border and across it regularly, living in the city of
00:14Londonderry, and I have to say I've noticed continually now, the guards have checked
00:19continually on the border now, on all major border roads. Why? Because of immigrants using Northern
00:28Ireland to go into the south. In fact, I was crossing the border very recently, and my own
00:34car was stopped, boot checked, bonnet checked, and there was quite a number of guards there,
00:40and they were there for some time. Not so long ago, I went to another border road,
00:45and we still had checkpoints. Then we were told, well, we couldn't have checkpoints,
00:49that would be wrong. They're happening, and they're happening now on a daily basis.
00:55So the nonsense that we couldn't have some sort of checks on the border
00:59was totally and absolutely nonsense. In fact, it was lies at the end of the day around all of this.
01:05But we must find a solution to the problems, and these debates are very important to highlight
01:13the issues that need to be highlighted in this chamber, and keep these issues before this house
01:19continually until we get a resolution to the problem. And yes, we all have to work together
01:25to get a resolution and find a way forward in how we deal with these issues now and in the future.
