Established in 2017, Judo Canada’s High Performance Club brings together the athletes who have competed at the Senior World Championships and/or the Olympic Games, as well as the referees, coaches, and physiotherapists who accompanied the athletes to the Olympics. The High Performance Gala is a direct offshoot of the club.
00:00I think that this is a great event it's nice to get all of these people that
00:29have committed so much to judo over the last 50 years here in the same room I
00:33think this is a beautiful event and a great event and really we need more
00:38events like that. I think it really highlights the the importance of
00:44celebrating our successes and recognizing our successes too often we
00:48have a tendency to work very hard and forget to stop. I just had a conversation
00:53with Nick Gill just discussing tonight's event and we went over and I think he's
00:58he coined it we were ahead of our time I think at the time we were able to
01:03support the athletes home and away and it's it's what we have right now with
01:08the EMS and the national sports organizations. Very pleasant to be
01:14surprised and and whatever I achieve in Canada through judo because of judo
01:20Canada they adapt me they help me they guide me support me and help me not only
01:26when I was a judo athlete but also when I was judo coach. I'm honored I never
01:32expected this kind of recognition for a person who actually works for judo
01:40Canada and being paid to do that. I know Andre from Poland we were friends we
01:44were in national team together everybody respect him very much and he dedicated
01:48his life for judo Canada. Tonight was truly so special
01:53standing on stage with Mark Ruger and Andre Stadej two men legends in the
01:57sport so it's really honored to be here tonight. We don't often take the time to
02:04reflect and look back on what we've done so this for me this was a moment to do
02:08it and it makes me very proud. Antoine is someone who is passionate, persistent, very
02:15determined with an incredible rigor.
02:24The team Canada always supported me and I thought something will change in myself
02:31after the winning the Olympics medal but honestly nothing changed in myself I'm
02:39just another athlete that's who's looking forward to go to the next step.
