Winter’s full of surprises, and some facts about it are wild! Did you know snow isn’t actually white? It’s clear, but the light bouncing around in the ice crystals makes it look white to us. And while we’re at it, snow can also be pink—nicknamed "watermelon snow" because of algae that thrive in cold. The coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth was a bone-chilling -128.6°F (-89.2°C) in Antarctica. Surprisingly, Siberia holds the title for the largest inhabited place with freezing temps, with people living in Oymyakon, where it regularly hits -50°F in winter. Oh, and here’s a fun one: sometimes it’s too cold to snow because the air doesn’t have enough moisture! Winter might be chilly, but it’s packed with cool facts. Animation is created by Bright Side.
