00:00Syrians attempted their first Friday prayers since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad's
00:07regime nearly one week ago.
00:10In a video address, rebel leader Ahmad al-Shara, formerly known as Abu Mohammed al-Jilani,
00:16invited people to celebrate peacefully following the prayers.
00:19Leaders of the G7 countries said in a statement that they are ready to support a political
00:43transition process that ensures the protection of human rights and Syrian religious and ethnic
00:49minorities.
00:50Meanwhile, Turkish President Erdogan met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on
00:56Thursday in Ankara, where Blinken pressed the importance of keeping up the fight against
01:01Islamic State.
01:04We also discussed the imperative of continuing the efforts to keep ISIS down.
01:11Our countries worked very hard and gave a lot over many years to ensure the elimination
01:17of the territorial caliphate of ISIS to ensure that that threat doesn't rear its head again
01:23and it's imperative that we keep at those efforts.
01:27Seeking to moderate its rhetoric and build relations with the West, Syria's interim government
01:32has pledged to uphold the rule of law, adding that they respect religious and cultural diversity
01:37in Syria.
