00:00Tonight, in New York City, the 2024 Heisman Trophy Award will be handed out.
00:09Our four finalists that will be in the Big Apple on this Saturday night, Colorado's two-way
00:14superstar in Travis Hunter, Boise State's running back, the nation's leader in Ashton
00:20Gentee, and two QBs, Oregon's Dylan Gabriel and Miami's Cam Ward.
00:26Lacey, where we enter this Saturday that a Heisman Trophy will be awarded, we have
00:31a very hefty odds on favorite at minus 10,000, now minus 9,000 on this Saturday, but still
00:39incredibly strong.
00:40That is Colorado's Travis Hunter.
00:42Do you agree with the odds?
00:44Will Travis Hunter win this award?
00:46Might there be any shifting in the hours to come?
00:49No, I don't see it.
00:50I think he's a hands-down favorite and wins it by significant margin tonight.
00:54In terms of what he's done from the offensive perspective, team's leading receiver has elevated
00:59that team in terms of the wins this year.
01:01I mean, six more wins than what they had in terms of 2022 overall, and what he's done
01:07in terms of the defensive side of the ball, right?
01:09It started last year.
01:10We saw him play basically 100 snaps per game at the interceptions, the ability to take
01:15a game over, cut off one half of the field, and just elevate his team in marquee, power
01:21five, power four type of games.
01:23Travis Hunter, to me, is the hands-down favorite.
01:26Again, is he the best wide receiver statistically in this class?
01:31No, but he has elevated the Colorado Buffaloes.
01:34Without Travis Hunter, unfortunately, I don't think they would have that record and be looking
01:38in terms of an 11-win season.
01:40Yeah, I have kind of talked on the desk where I don't know if the amount of bets and perception
01:47is shooting Travis higher than he necessarily should be.
01:51I wonder if the final tally of votes will be much closer than this number, and I don't
01:56feel as if the recent awards that were all given out gave us a ton of clarity, because
02:03on one end, Gente won the Maxwell Player of the Year award.
02:07I know you'll give us what that means historically, typically, as it relates to the Heisman.
02:12But then Travis Hunter wins the Defensive Player of the Year and the Wide Receiver of
02:15the Year award.
02:16So, you know, I don't know.
02:18Maybe he wins this thing unanimously.
02:20I'm not even referring to who I think should win.
02:22Forget that for a second.
02:23I'm talking about what is actually going to happen tonight.
02:26For me, that number says no suspense.
02:30Get the alert to your phone.
02:31Congratulations, Travis.
02:32Yeah.
02:33Yeah.
02:34I actually think there is a little suspense going into the show tonight.
02:37This is a historic Heisman list of finalists that will be there tonight in New York City,
02:43and that should be appreciated as well.
02:46To Kev's point, earlier this week, the rest of the college football awards were handed
02:51out.
02:52Travis Hunter won the Boletnikoff award.
02:54That's for the top wide receiver in college football.
02:56He won the Chuck Bednarik award for the best defensive player in college football, and
03:01yet was not a finalist for the Thorpe award, which is the best defensive back in college
03:07football.
03:08Ashton Gente won the Doak Walker award for the best running back in the country, and
03:12the Maxwell award, which is often lockstep with where the Heisman trophy is presented
03:18as well.
03:19In the last decade since 2014, the start of the college football playoff era, eight of
03:24the 10 winners of the Maxwell award have also then won the Heisman trophy just a few days
03:30later.
03:31Only twice has that not been the case.
03:33Last year in 2023, Jaden Daniels, the Heisman trophy winner, Michael Pettich, Jr., the winner
03:38of the Maxwell 2018, Kyler Murray won the Heisman trophy, Alabama's Tua Tungabailoa,
03:44the winner of the Maxwell.
03:46Might we see that here?
03:48That remains to be seen.
03:49I will say, the guy that won the Maxwell that didn't win the Heisman twice in the last decade
03:54did finish Kev Runner up in terms of that Heisman trophy race.
03:57One thing I will say, I do wonder, because of course Dylan Gabriel and Cam Ward will
04:03both be there.
04:05And I might sound nuts for this, but if Travis Hunter didn't exist, because the thing about
04:09Travis is ultimately, since once their record was good enough to get him there, it was kind
04:15of, it's Otani, right?
04:18It's like, well, I mean, he's one of the five best defensive players and offensive players
04:21potentially in the country.
04:23What do you really want to do with that?
04:25I wonder if Ashton Jenthie would have won this award if he was going head to head with
04:30Dylan Gabriel.
04:31Hunter didn't exist.
04:32I think everybody would assume the answer is yes, but those teams did meet.
04:36Gabriel's team was victorious.
04:38Dylan Gabriel ultimately 13-0, unanimous number one in all of college football.
04:44Nobody actually thinks Gabriel deserves to win the award.
04:46I just wonder what the award would have looked like if it was Gabriel versus Jenthie only.
04:51I think Jenthie would have been favored in terms of that type of situation.
04:557.1 yards per carry, 29 rushing touchdowns, dominant effort in terms of the three-point
05:00loss to Oregon as well, so I believe they would have Jenthie first.
