00:00This next song is a song of hope.
00:07When Dred Zeppelin came out, everybody was like, what is this?
00:11It was nothing that outrageous.
00:15These guys play reggae cover versions of Led Zeppelin songs
00:19with lead vocals provided by an Elvis Presley imitator.
00:22Is this for real, or is this a joke?
00:26To my knowledge, before Dred Zeppelin, there weren't any hybrid bands that did this.
00:31You know, it was kind of transgressive in a way.
00:34Like, they were all actors.
00:36Tell President Bush, no.
00:38If you were a diehard Elvis' King fan, you might not like it,
00:41but if you got the joke, it was really well delivered.
00:44God, Elvis!
00:45Hey, is that Robert Plant?
00:46Yeah, is that you?
00:47That's me.
00:48But then it goes into reggae. Music's fantastic.
00:51Well, since my baby left me
00:54In sort of the 80s, 90s timeframe,
00:57we had reached this level of artifice in music and in pop culture in general.
01:02Dred Zeppelin, in a way, was the antithesis of all that.
01:06It was anti-rock and roll, anti-rock star,
01:10and yet we could still be rock stars in a funny way.
01:13If our attention is given to celebrities, you have to ask the reason why.
01:18Why is that?
01:20Because maybe they're not real? Are they not real?
01:26It's quite possible that not everybody was in on the joke.
01:29There's hundreds of people out there flipping us off and screaming.
01:33What would be worse?
01:34If someone told you that you were lousy musicians or lousy comedians?
01:38As long as they're saying anything about us.
01:42If people realize that you're just a wonderful big put-on,
01:46that you're very funny, and the music is good...
01:49Do we look silly or something?
01:50No, no.
01:52They're Dred Zeppelin,
01:53the band that's taken the music industry by the jugular and shaken it.
01:58And if Elvis out there is watching at this moment,
02:00as we have reason to believe he might be,
02:02what would you want to say to him right now?
02:04Well, Elvis, I can say that hopefully we're fulfilling your wishes
02:08I'd just like to say that hopefully we're fulfilling your wishes
02:11and doing exactly what you wanted us to do.
02:13Legs up on music, reggae style.
02:16I'd just like to say that I played innocent of all charges.
