00:00Of course, celebrities aren't exactly who they make themselves out to be in their public
00:04personas, but sometimes the difference between the facade and the reality is more than anyone
00:09ever expected.
00:10She created a media empire built of talk shows, magazines, and an endless banquet of recipes.
00:15But is Rachel Ray really as nice and bubbly as she appears on TV?
00:19Most fans say yes, but critics claim otherwise.
00:22Ray and her husband, producer John Cosimano, celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary
00:27by renewing their vows during a lavish ceremony in Italy.
00:30Ray gushed about the event to People magazine, but tabloid reports suggest their marriage
00:34is anything but perfect.
00:35In 2013, the National Enquirer alleged Cosimano was a member of a swingers club in New York
00:40City and had cheated on Ray.
00:42Ray's camp denied the story, who said the tabloid piece was another pack of lies printed
00:45by the National Enquirer who have been targeting John and Rachel for several years with no
00:49merit.
00:50Oprah played a major role in launching Ray's television career, but as Ray's television
00:54fame grew, some say the ladies' relationship has soured.
00:57In January 2007, TMZ reported that an allegedly drunk Ray made disparaging racial remarks
01:03about Winfrey during a dinner in 2005.
01:05The story was vehemently challenged by Ray's camp, who told TMZ,
01:08"...Rachel did attend the dinner referenced and enjoyed wine and good conversation with
01:12friends and colleagues.
01:13She denies making any of the comments referenced.
01:15In fact, there are several words that are attributed to Rachel that she has never uttered
01:19in her life."
01:20But it didn't stop there.
01:21In May 2008, the National Enquirer claimed Ray and Winfrey were at war, because Winfrey
01:25supposedly had concerns about Ray's talk show and magazine.
01:28Ray dismissed the gossip during an episode of her show, which aired that month, saying,
01:32"...the rumor about Oprah just broke my heart.
01:34It really did.
01:35It killed me.
01:36I'm like, no, we like each other."
01:37In 2008, TMZ tore apart Ray's Election Night Cooking Guide magazine spread in an effort
01:42to reveal a, quote, "...devious, grassy, knoll-like plot that could decide the presidency," while
01:47the actual recipes went out of their way to sound neutral, even including unappetizing
01:51titles like Bipartisan Salad, TMZ noted that the photos next to the dishes were allegedly
01:55laid out in favor of Barack Obama over John McCain.
01:58They noted three instances where Obama and McCain buttons or stickers are arranged in
02:02a dining display, but in all three photos, Obama's image is clear, while McCain's image
02:06is either partially obstructed from view or blurry.
02:10Truly earth-shattering stuff.
02:11Also in 2008, Ray found herself engulfed by a controversial Dunkin' Donuts ad.
02:16Some suggested the chef was supporting terrorism because she was wearing a black-and-white
02:19scarf that looked like a traditional Arab headdress.
02:22The brand said no political symbolism was intended.
02:24Ray leading a double life as a terrorist?
02:26That seems far-fetched, but the commercial was pulled off air for good measure.
02:30As part of her Food Network show $40 a Day, Ray spent a lot of airtime visiting eateries.
02:35Having made a living in the food industry, you'd think she'd be eager to give back to
02:38struggling waiters and waitresses.
02:40Not so, according to some critics who've labeled her a notoriously cheap tipper, reportedly
02:44leaving waitstaff a paltry 10 percent gratuity.
02:47Interestingly enough, Ray starred in a Food Network program in 2014 called The Big Tip,
02:51serving up big tips, which scoured the country looking for waiters and waitresses that deserve
02:55a life-changing tip, which was hopefully more than her usual $2.84.
03:01This debacle is a case of mistaken identity, leading many to believe Ray was living a double
03:04life as rapper Jay-Z's mistress.
03:07For real.
03:08Beyoncé's Lemonade debuted in the spring of 2016, igniting a frenzied search for the
03:12person referenced in her Sorry track.
03:14In the last line of the song, Beyoncé mentions Becky with the good hair.
03:17Some Beyoncé fans, known collectively as the Beehive, linked Becky to fashion designer
03:21Rachel Roy.
03:22Roy may or may not have been the reason Beyoncé's sister, Solange Knowles, attacked Beyoncé's
03:26husband Jay-Z in an elevator in that notorious TMZ footage.
03:29The Hive mistook Roy's name for Ray's, leading them to swarm Ray's social media accounts
03:33with Lemonade and V emojis, insults, and even misguided boycotts of her products.
03:38Fortunately, Ray shrugged off the scandal with a laugh, telling U.S. Weekly,
03:41Rachel sent me flowers and I sent her a bottle, a big bottle of wine and a straw."
03:46Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis has built herself an empire based on her home
03:50cooking and wholesome appearance.
03:53But not everything in her life is as wholesome as it looks.
03:56We did a little digging and found out that she's as messed up as the rest of us.
04:00With all of the food that she cooks on her show, we've often wondered how Giada De Laurentiis
04:04stays so petite.
04:06The answer's simple — she never actually eats any of the food that she cooks.
04:10According to a Page Six article from 2014, an unnamed source revealed that Giada chews
04:15the food for the cameras, then spits it out into a dump bucket.
04:19A representative for De Laurentiis has denied this, but it could simply prove the old adage
04:24— never trust a skinny chef.
04:28"...mmm.
04:29It's the perfect light indulgence on a weeknight hors d'oeuvre.
04:32It's the perfect weeknight hors d'oeuvre."
04:34Soon after finalizing her divorce from fashion designer Todd Thompson in September 2015,
04:40De Laurentiis started stepping out with a new guy, TV producer Shane Farley.
04:44However, rumors and allegations surfaced that the two had actually started dating while
04:48Giada was still married to Thompson.
04:51Meanwhile, De Laurentiis has also been linked to other men in the past — guys like Matt
04:55Lauer, Bobby Flay, and John Mayer.
04:58She's denied rumors of all these affairs, especially the John Mayer one.
05:02Meanwhile, when De Laurentiis announced her relationship with Farley, her beau was actually
05:06still married.
05:08According to TMZ, she and her ex-husband never signed a prenuptial agreement, so Thompson
05:13gets half the money she earned from various book advances that are still in the works.
05:17Also, Thompson gets to keep their $3.2 million Pacific Palisades home, which contains $300,000
05:24in furnishings and art, and $9,000 a month in child support, along with numerous other
05:30financial windfalls.
05:31Fortunately for her, she kept her brand, GDL Foods Inc., and doesn't have to pay spousal
05:37support.
05:38That settlement still might've been a bit hard for her to swallow.
05:41Maybe she had the dump bucket handy?
05:43In November 2015, De Laurentiis opened up to Dr. Oz's magazine, The Good Life, saying,
05:49quote,
05:50"...it was a very difficult time.
05:51I don't have the answers, I'm figuring them out as I go.
05:54I'm also afraid, like many other women who go through this, and men too, for that matter."
05:59Regardless of just how her split with Todd Thompson went down, that's definitely one
06:04sentiment that everyone can agree with.
06:06Dr. Mehmet Oz made his first appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2004, launching
06:12him into a career that's included both fame and infamy.
06:15His partnership with Winfrey led him to launch The Dr. Oz Show on Oprah's network in 2009,
06:21and now he's a household name, as well as a guy who seems to be constantly trying to
06:25sell you untested miracle drugs.
06:27Let's break down the double life of Dr. Oz.
06:30You may think magic is make-believe, but this little bean has scientists saying they've
06:35found a magic weight loss cure for every body type.
06:39It's green coffee beans.
06:41Unfortunately, there are no magic pills, or beans, that will solve all of life's problems,
06:46but Dr. Oz didn't get the memo.
06:48Among the things that he's literally called magic weight loss solutions are green coffee
06:52extract, raspberry ketone, and Garcinia cambogia.
06:56For the record, there's no science to back up any of the claims he's made, and in fact,
07:00studies have even indicated otherwise.
07:03A 1998 study showed that Garcinia cambogia didn't notably help participants lose weight.
07:08A similar 2013 study proved the same for green coffee.
07:12In fact, the Federal Trade Commission sued the company that makes green coffee extract
07:16in 2014.
07:17Sorry, folks, good old-fashioned diet and exercise continue to be the only way to lose
07:22weight naturally.
07:24After being accused of misleading his audience about weight loss products, Dr. Oz was summoned
07:29to face a Senate subcommittee in 2014, where he promptly began to backtrack on his claims.
07:35While he never referred to his comments as outright lies, he did concede that his language
07:40was a little strong, using words such as miracle and magic when referring to pills that have
07:44no proven effects.
07:46He finally told the Senate,
07:48"...I'm in a situation where I'm second-guessing every word I use on the show right now.
07:53So I'm very respectful, I've heard the message, I've told my colleagues at the FTC, I get
07:57it."
07:58Maybe he should just stick to discussing real issues, like the Great Shiny Legs debate of
08:032016.
08:05The British Medical Journal performed a study in 2014 examining claims made on Dr. Oz's
08:10show and found that many of those claims on The Dr. Oz Show were not supported by evidence
08:15or were in direct contradiction to scientific studies.
08:19Doctors were only able to find legitimate evidence to support around 46 percent of the
08:23recommendations on the show, 15 percent of Dr. Oz's claims were found to be in direct
08:27contradiction to scientific evidence, and no evidence was found for the remaining 39
08:32percent.
08:33At this point, we're not even sure if we'd trust his bathroom cleaning hacks.
08:37In addition to the allegations regarding numerous weight loss products Dr. Oz has promoted,
08:41he's also been accused of peddling eternal youth.
08:45According to The Huffington Post, Dr. Oz touted red palm oil as the miracle oil for longevity,
08:50saying,
08:51"...there's a secret inside the flesh of this fruit, extending the warranty of nearly every
08:55organ in your body.
08:56This mega-oil may very well be the most miraculous find of 2013."
09:01He also claimed it could prevent dementia and Alzheimer's, despite there being no research
09:05to support that claim.
09:07A 2004 study even shows that an increased intake of saturated fats, like red palm oil,
09:12could potentially lead to cognitive decline.
09:15Not only are Dr. Oz's miracle cures possibly doing nothing, but they might actually be
09:20hurting people.
09:22When Dr. Oz tells his millions of viewers to buy a product, they listen.
09:26Science-based medicine calls this phenomenon the Dr. Oz Effect, noting that when he promoted
09:31green coffee bean extract on his show, along with naturopath Lindsay Duncan, they directed
09:36consumers to websites owned by Duncan.
09:39Duncan reportedly sold $50 million worth of the supplement following the segment on
09:43The Dr. Oz Show, and then he was charged by the FTC, forcing him to refund $9 million
09:50to customers.
09:51In 2015, Dr. Oz used his show to address a petition that questioned his professional
09:57qualifications.
09:58You may have seen the headlines attacking me this past week after a brazen letter from
10:0210 mysterious doctors called for my removal from Columbia University Medical School, where
10:07I have proudly been on the faculty for almost 20 years.
10:10The statement indicated that Dr. Oz actively endangers the public, and read, in part,
10:16"...Dr. Oz has repeatedly shown disdain for science and for evidence-based medicine."
10:20Columbia refused the request, saying it wouldn't remove Dr. Oz as vice chairman because the
10:25school is, quote,
10:27"...committed to the principle of academic freedom and to upholding faculty members'
10:31freedom of expression for statements they make in public discussion."
10:35Which is a polite way of saying, we don't care.
10:37Dr. Oz has responded to those who scrutinize the accuracy of this advice by saying that
10:42The Dr. Oz Show is not a medical show and defended the title, which, let's not forget,
10:47has the word doctor on it, by giving a convoluted justification about the logo, saying,
10:53"...we very purposely, on the logo, have Oz in the middle and the doctor is actually up
10:58in the little bar for a reason.
10:59I want folks to realize that I'm a doctor and I'm coming into their lives to be supportive
11:04of them.
11:05But it's not a medical show."
11:06While this should be obvious, considering he interviews people dressed as green beans.
11:11Still, we'd expect him to use the word doctor a little more responsibly than, say, Dr. Dre
11:16or Doc McStuffins or Dr. Pepper.
11:19Beyoncé is an enigma.
11:21She's an international songstress who belts out Leave-Em Girl anthems as her alter ego
11:26Sasha Fierce.
11:27And then there's her private life, which has been shrouded in controversy, including husband
11:31Jay-Z's infidelity and allegations that she hasn't always been truthful about her songwriting
11:36process.
11:37While she appears to address some scandals head-on, the lemonade artist remains mom on
11:40the hottest topics.
11:42Let's dig into the double life of Beyoncé.
11:45Many fans are drawn to Beyoncé because of her female-empowered hits, with lyrics that
11:49vibe on how she can do with or without a man in her life.
11:53This self-proclaimed Black Bill Gates in the making settles for nothing, and she doesn't
11:57stop there.
11:58In 2017, the singer released a video in celebration of International Day of the Girl, featuring
12:03girls from all corners of the globe singing her song, Freedom.
12:07But while she skillfully uses her platform to build women up in all aspects of their
12:11lives, fans were asking questions when it came to her hubby, Jay.
12:15Infidelity allegations have plagued Beyoncé's marriage, and she appeared to address them
12:19in 2016's Lemonade.
12:21In her scathing track, Sorry, she not only blasts her husband's alleged mistress, aka
12:26Becky, with the good hair, but also seems to peace out on the relationship.
12:30Then, when Jay-Z released 444 in 2017, rumors about his infidelity were all but confirmed.
12:37He told The New York Times his issues are rooted in his inability to connect to women
12:41emotionally, admitting,
12:42"...the hardest thing is seeing pain on someone's face that you cause and then have to deal
12:46with yourself."
12:47Despite Jay-Z's admissions and Beyoncé's fiercely independent brand, it looks like
12:51this power couple is in it to win it.
12:54Beyoncé is the queen of keeping her private life private.
12:58Vogue journalist Jason Gay once wrote,
13:00"...an audience with Beyoncé can be as challenging to schedule as a tennis match with the Pope."
13:05As early as 2005, Queen Bey was outlining her reclusive approach to superstardom, telling
13:10Oprah,
13:11"...it's really hard to have privacy.
13:13Sometimes it gets a little overwhelming.
13:17But I now have learned to take time for myself."
13:20But exactly where does she draw the line?
13:23Despite craving privacy, Beyoncé joined Instagram in 2012, posting never-before-seen photos of
13:28her glamorous lifestyle on and off the stage.
13:31And as far as her music, Politini Media CEO Danielle Moody-Mills called Lemonade,
13:36"...the most vulnerable, raw, and artistic album that Beyoncé has ever made."
13:41Though the project was considered highly biographical, Beyoncé was reluctant to detail her connection
13:46to its content.
13:47Tug-of-war of those missing pieces leaves some fans questioning her true intentions.
13:52Queen Bey is all about healthy living.
13:54"...it's all about balance, but absolutely, I make better choices."
13:59In 2011, she even lent a helping hand to former FLOTUS Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign
14:04with the song Get Me Bodied.
14:06Then in 2015, she took things a step further by partnering with her trainer, Marco Borges,
14:11for 22 Days Nutrition.
14:13The plant-based meal plan, along with strenuous workouts, was cited as the driving force behind
14:18the singer's svelte bod.
14:20Borges told E! News,
14:21"...she is all about health and wellness.
14:23She just wants to feel good."
14:24But was she really as healthy as she claimed?
14:27Beyoncé played songstress Deena Jones in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical
14:31Dreamgirls.
14:32And to prepare for her role, Beyoncé reportedly endured the infamous master cleanse.
14:36She told Oprah,
14:37"...I figured in the 60s, Twiggy was the hot model, and Diana Ross and Cher and all the
14:42legends were thinner than I am.
14:44So I decided I wanted to lose weight and make a physical transformation."
14:47The 14-day cleanse, also known as the lemonade diet, consists of chugging maple syrup, fresh-squeezed
14:53lemon juice, and cayenne pepper to rid the body of toxins.
14:56However, according to Health.com, the rapid weight loss from consuming less than 1,200
15:00calories a day can lead to a slow metabolism and even cardiac stress.
15:05Not exactly healthy.
15:07When she wasn't spilling the tea about her marriage, Beyoncé's lemonade was celebrating
15:11the beauty, pride, and achievements of Black women.
15:14And prior to that project's release, Bey delivered a powerful performance steeped in Black Power
15:18references at the 2016 Super Bowl, sparking conversation about race relations in America
15:23and spotlighting Black Lives Matter.
15:26In the early 2000s, Latin sound was hot in the States, and nearly everyone was experimenting
15:31with Spanish-language music, including Beyoncé.
15:33After the 2006 release of her super-successful hit, Irreplaceable, she released a Spanish
15:38version of the track, then teamed up with Shakira for Beautiful Liar and its Spanish
15:42counterpart.
15:43But some of the singer's love for the language went further than admiration.
15:46She confirmed as much in 2008, telling Latina magazine,
15:49"...I'm just jealous that I wasn't born Latina.
15:52I wish I had been because the culture is so beautiful.
15:54I'm very grateful Latinos are embracing me."
15:57Beyoncé told Vanity Fair that Crazy in Love, featuring Jay-Z, was really hard to write.
16:02I had written, what, seven, eight number-one songs with Destiny's Child in a row?
16:07But I guess if you haven't written a number-one song in three months, you have to prove yourself
16:10again.
16:11But did Beyoncé exaggerate the role she played in writing that track?
16:15And more?
16:16Beyoncé's honesty regarding her songwriting process was called into question when MTV
16:20News revealed Crazy in Love was actually the brainchild of producer Rich Harrison.
16:24Harrison said he had the track ready to go, and was just waiting for the right artist
16:28to bring it to life.
16:29When he linked up with Beyoncé, she supposedly loved the sample and told him,
16:33"...Now, write the song.
16:34I'll be back in two hours."
16:36But Beyoncé's controversial crediting stretches beyond just her songwriting.
16:40She's been accused of modeling her maternity photos off rapper M.I.A.'s P.O.W.A. video,
16:45copying Fuerza Bruta choreography, and ripping off Swiss artist Pippo Lodi Rist in her Hold
16:50Up video.
16:51In 2017, Business Insider reported that Bey was being sued for $20 million by the estate
16:57of a late internet star who sampled information.
17:00Is it simply an accident?
17:01After all, imitation is a form of flattery.
17:04Either way, it certainly adds to the complexity of her mysteriously magical life.
17:10Almost everyone knows who Tom Cruise is.
17:13Well, part of him.
17:14The Oscar-nominated actor has been a bona fide movie star for decades, but behind the
17:18curtain is a man whose personal woes seem to stand in direct contrast to his squeaky-clean
17:24superstardom.
17:25Here's the rundown on the complicated double life led by one of Hollywood's longest-lasting
17:30A-listers.
17:31Ever since his earliest days as a Hollywood heartthrob-turned-action star, Cruise has
17:36developed a reputation for being completely willing to go there with dangerous stunt work
17:41and usually arrives as the capable hero of his movies.
17:44Even when he does pick up a villainous role, he's usually still likable on some level.
17:49For his Mission Impossible series, he's done a ton of death-and-gravity-defying hands-on
17:54work as the unconquerable Ethan Hunt, including holding onto the side of an airplane during
17:59takeoff.
18:00The recognition stunt coordinator once quipped that his
18:02"...stuntman has the least work of any stuntman in the world."
18:06In other words, he's represented as a tough, hard-working, good guy by Hollywood standards.
18:11However, as solid as his star status has remained, Cruise's personal affairs have been the subject
18:16of many raised eyebrows.
18:18His three divorces — from Mimi Rogers in 1990, Nicole Kidman in 2001, and Katie Holmes
18:24in 2012 — have prompted no shortage of speculation.
18:28With Kidman, for example, rumors abounded that the reason they never had biological
18:32kids and instead adopted two children together was that Cruise was secretly gay.
18:37Kidman later revealed to Vanity Fair that they once suffered a traumatic miscarriage,
18:41however, and Cruise has consistently denied rumors about his sexuality.
18:46What he hasn't been able to dispel, though, are the stories about his controlling behaviors
18:50in his relationships.
18:51Holmes, for example, shocked fans of their seemingly whirlwind romance by suddenly removing
18:56herself and their daughter Suri Cruise from his home and life, after reportedly feeling
19:01trapped within it.
19:02One source compared the level of control and confinement to the 1968 classic horror film
19:07Rosemary's Baby, saying,
19:09"...every move she made and everything she did was controlled."
19:13That's hardly the same gleeful image the powers that be have painted of the actor over the
19:18years.
19:19Cruise ranks among the most famous and fiercely devoted members of L. Ron Hubbard's much-scrutinized
19:24religious sect, and he has done a number of very strange things in the name of Scientology
19:29over the years.
19:30Among the most troubling?
19:31He reportedly allowed the church to secretly tap ex-wife Nicole Kidman's phone because
19:36her father was a psychologist, which was viewed as an enemy of the institution.
19:40The organization allegedly even aided him in turning their adoptive children against
19:45her by labeling her a suppressive person.
19:48"...I'm just living my life.
19:50And I'm doing the best that I can and doing it in a way that I feel is right."
19:55The dissolution of his marriage to Holmes, too, seems largely attributable to his codependency
20:00with the church.
20:01Reportedly, certain members moved into their home, and Holmes feared they'd convince Suri
20:05to cut off contact with her if and when she left the church.
20:09Cruise's ties to the religious organization have also been implicated in his divorce from
20:13first wife Rogers.
20:15Cruise's relationship with Scientology leader David Miscavige, however, has remained unfettered
20:20all the while.
20:21In her tell-all book, actress Leah Remini revealed that the two share a bromance that
20:25includes their own special language, and Miscavige is rumored to be heavily involved in Cruise's
20:31personal affairs.
20:32"...People who knew Tom before he was fully brainwashed say that he was a sweet and loving
20:38person, and he's turned into something else."
20:42At his birthday party in 2008, which was thrown by Miscavige, of course, Cruise was shown
20:47enthusiastically cutting a rug and dancing without abandon.
20:51And in Tropic Thunder released that same year, Cruise was willing to don a prosthetic suit
20:55that multiplied his size to create Les Grossman, a Hollywood studio exec persona that took
21:00a hilarious poke at the movie business.
21:03"...Let's go, let's go."
21:06"...I've been a whole time a rock n' roll."
21:08In reality, though, Cruise is reportedly an exceedingly serious person.
21:13Not only does he allegedly tape his own interviews, but he also has a very aggressive romantic
21:18courtship process.
21:19Modern Family star Sofia Vergara once reportedly experienced a blizzard of phone calls, text
21:24messages, and emails, and an invitation to go on a vacation with him on a trip to Scientology
21:30Center in Clearwater, Florida, just a day after meeting Cruise.
21:34She allegedly even had to go into hiding to avoid him.
21:37It's not the first time Cruise's oddball courtship rituals have been called into question, either.
21:42A Norwegian actress named Annette Irene Johansson once reported being screen-tested in an actual
21:47audition for the real-life role of Cruise's girlfriend.
21:51In War of the Worlds, Cruise played a sort of super-dad who'd go to the ends of the Earth
21:55to keep his children safe and sound.
21:57"...I always wanted to be a father.
21:59You know, remember when you first held your child, it was like, wow, tremendous sense
22:03of responsibility."
22:04According to reports, though, in real life he hasn't seen his daughter Suri in years,
22:08reportedly due to his unfailing commitment to the Church of Scientology.
22:12In June 2016, a source told InTouch that Tom hadn't seen his only biological child in over
22:181,000 days at that point, saying,
22:20"...they used to Skype and text, but that trailed off drastically.
22:24Tom eats, breathes, and sleeps Scientology.
22:27He's disconnected from Katie and then de facto from Suri because of her connection to Katie.
22:32He hasn't seen her since she was seven."
22:34Cruise does, however, maintain a close relationship with his elder two children, Connor and Bella,
22:39both of whom are members of Scientology.
22:41But as part of the aforementioned disconnection policy, they are said to have rejected Kidman
22:46since the divorce.
22:48On screen, Tom Cruise is usually the kind of guy whose jets are way too cool to engage
22:53in major celebs' bets.
22:54But the truth is, he's been a party to his fair share.
22:57His very public objection to Brooke Shields' use of antidepressants for her postpartum
23:02disorder, for instance, made waves because he called her use of anything but vitamins
23:06and exercise to cure their various emotional ills irresponsible.
23:10"...You gotta understand, I really care about Brooke Shields."
23:15The two later resolved their differences in a face-to-face discussion.
23:18"...but then he came over to my house without, you know, cameras and without anything and
23:22he apologized."
23:24But his controversial words continued on-air in a sit-down interview with Matt Lauer in
23:30when the subject of Scientology's rejection of psychiatry came up.
23:33"...before I was a Scientologist, I never agreed with psychiatry, and then when I started
23:37studying the history of psychiatry, I started realizing more and more why I didn't agree
23:40with psychiatry."
23:42He went on to call Lauer a glib and claimed there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance
23:47to justify the use of prescription meds.
23:49He later apologized for being arrogant, but the mask of Cruise being a mainstream guy
23:54was fully and forever lifted.
23:58Bobby Flay has cooked up quite a reputation as a celebrity chef, but behind the scenes
24:03his personal life has been turning stomachs.
24:05Turn up the heat, we're digging into the double life of Bobby Flay.
24:10Chef Masaharu Morimoto was not stoked about Bobby Flay's behavior when they competed against
24:15one another on Iron Chef Japan.
24:17Apparently, Flay committed quite the cultural snafu by jumping on a cutting board after
24:21the timer ran out.
24:22He wasn't declared the winner, but he certainly acted like that was the case.
24:26According to The Wire, Morimoto was highly offended by the manner in which his fellow
24:29celeb chef treated the tools of their trade, saying,
24:32"'He's no chef.
24:34He stood on the cutting board.
24:35In Japan, the cutting board is sacred.'"
24:37While we can understand Flay's exuberance in the heat of the moment, his actions still
24:41seem boneheaded and disrespectful.
24:43A chef of Flay's caliber should know the codes of the kitchen.
24:47Though a simple fist pump would have sufficed, Flay allowed his life as a celebrity to overshadow
24:51his life as a chef.
24:54The throwdown with Bobby Flay was supposedly a head-to-head competition between Flay and
24:58another chef, where they each made a variation on the challenger chef's signature dish.
25:03As the show was presented, each challenge portrayed Flay taking a crack at making a
25:07dish with which he was generally unfamiliar.
25:09But according to competitor Ben Sargent, he was the patsy in what became the pilot episode
25:16for the then-brand new show in 2006 after allegedly being duped by Flay and the Food
25:21Network into thinking he was getting his own show.
25:24In an interview with Slash Food, Sargent said he was under the impression that he was,
25:28"...taping his own half-hour Food Network TV show, all about him and chowder his specialty."
25:34That is, until Flay challenged him to a chowder cook-off.
25:37Sargent quickly realized what was happening, especially when Flay's army of help showed
25:41up.
25:42Sargent remembered,
25:43"...he's got all his sous-chefs, two women working under him in their black chef's coats
25:46with the Little Food Network logo on them.
25:49They look so intimidating.
25:50His stocks were prepared in containers.
25:52He comes with a hundred brand-new glistening Japanese prep knives.
25:55He had his automatic chowder mixer.
25:57I'm sitting there mixing raw potatoes dealing with our lack of high flame.
26:01It wasn't fair."
26:02But Flay's alleged cheating wasn't limited to the kitchen.
26:06Flay split with his third wife, actress Stephanie March, of Law & Order SVU in 2015, and it
26:11was widely reported that Flay spent three years in an affair with Elyse Turrell, an
26:16inspiring singer and actress.
26:18Turrell had worked her way up from her role as a hostess at Flay's Bar Americain in New
26:22York City to that of his assistant, according to Page Six.
26:26As cheating rumors swirled, the chef issued a statement to Us Weekly that read,
26:30"...this specific allegation was in a letter sent from one attorney in this case to another.
26:35It was written and then leaked specifically to try to insert this story into the press.
26:39All of this is being done in order to renegotiate a pronunciable agreement that was agreed to
26:44over a decade ago."
26:45It wasn't exactly a denial of infidelity on Flay's part.
26:48It sounded more like an ugly chess move to lay blame on his ex's door.
26:53Flay's marriage to Stephanie March ended in 2015, but according to a report by TMZ, it
26:58had been breaking down long before.
27:00This was evidenced in 2014, when Flay reportedly opted out of visiting March in the hospital
27:05until the day after her emergency surgery for a burst appendix.
27:09And once he did show up, he supposedly left her early because he was, quote, "...busy
27:13with work."
27:14To make matters worse, Flay also reportedly skipped out on their 10-year wedding anniversary
27:18to attend a wine festival in Florida with a group of his assistants.
27:22But don't worry, March is doing just fine these days.
27:24She discussed her emergency appendectomy and revealed that she's had surgery for endometriosis,
27:29telling Physique 57,
27:30"...I needed to give my body time to heal and be quiet.
27:34When I was ready to tackle regular exercise again, I wanted to incorporate more toning,
27:38stretching and core fitness into my routine."
27:41"...When you want to fix something in your life, look to your heart."
27:46With an estimated net worth of $60 million, you'd think Flay wouldn't be cheap or possibly
27:50vindictive when dealing with his ex-wife.
27:52But according to a 2015 report by TMZ, Flay canceled March's credit cards during their
27:57messy divorce, in a move her lawyer called, quote, "...bullying through economic warfare."
28:02March claimed she was using the cards only for household expenses, but Flay abided by
28:06their prenup and sent March a check for $5,000 instead.
28:10March's lawyer returned the check along with some blistering words for the famous chef
28:14in a letter to his attorney, writing,
28:16"...we regard the support provisions of the pre-marital agreement as unenforceable, not
28:20to mention morally reprehensible."
28:22Her lawyer also accused Flay of using this economic tactic in order to force March into
28:27issuing a joint statement to lead people to believe their divorce was amicable.
28:32When Mad Men actress January Jones was in a small car accident in 2010, she called Bobby
28:37Flay for assistance.
28:38By all accounts, suggesting that the two were, in the least, very close.
28:42"...this is a misunderstanding, I don't know this man."
28:45But according to Flay, he met Jones for the first time that very evening.
28:49She asked him for his number because she wanted his input on an interior designer to redo
28:53her kitchen.
28:54He then claimed he had no clue why Jones phoned him to bail her out of her vehicular jam.
28:59Regardless, he was a gentleman and came to her aid.
29:01But was it just an innocuous celeb exchange?
29:04Not so fast.
29:05Flay's then-wife Stephanie claimed Flay and Jones were lovers, according to the Daily
29:09Beast.
29:10And there's more food for thought.
29:11Jones gave birth to a son, Xander, in 2011.
29:14For years, it was rumored that her former Flame actor Jason Sudeikis was the baby daddy,
29:19but Jones never confirmed the identity of Xander's father.
29:22Could Flay have put a bun in that oven?
29:24You know what that's saying?
29:26Eat me."
29:28Getting awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame should be a day to remember.
29:32"...To be the first chef to get a star is really, truly an amazing milestone."
29:36But unfortunately for Flay, that day was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
29:41During the 2015 ceremony, a plane flew overhead with a banner that read, quote, Cheetah, according
29:46to Us Weekly.
29:47Talk about a PR disaster.
29:49This embarrassing incident occurred in the midst of Flay's public divorce with March.
29:53Naturally, people speculated that his estranged wife might have been the culprit.
29:57But her attorney shot it down, stating,
29:59"...Stephanie is absolutely not behind this."
30:02But a mere two months before Flay's ceremony, March's friend, a fellow actor Maya Madison,
30:07spoke out about March learning about Flay's reported affair, telling Page Six,
30:11"...She came to my house and was sobbing uncontrollably.
30:13She said, I can't believe the last 10 years of my life have been a lie."
30:18Flay's divorce from March was anything but amicable.
30:20Much of the courtroom fighting had to do with the couple's prenup, which Flay reportedly
30:24felt was fair and March allegedly did not.
30:27This led to a number of messy headlines in the tabloids, including fights over what really
30:31led March to get plastic surgery and even the couple's horse.
30:35The divorce was finally settled in July 2015, but not without one last headline.
30:40According to Page Six, as part of the settlement, March was forced to vacate the couple's Manhattan
30:45home, where she had been taking care of her sick mother.
30:48An insider alleged,
30:49"...She has been staying there with her mother, who has been in poor health.
30:53It has been a very difficult time for her.
30:55It is unclear what her future living arrangement will be as she continues to care for her mother."
30:59In happier news, March has since found love again by way of tech investor Dan Benton,
31:04whom she married in 2017.
31:07Flay's brash behavior is the key ingredient to his notoriety.
31:10There's no shortage of press material about negative fan experiences, and how he appears
31:15to act similarly towards colleagues.
31:16"...Mommy can kick your ass anytime."
31:19Canadian chef Chuck Hughes competed with Flay on Iron Chef America.
31:23But before the showdown, Hughes presented his opponent with an official Montreal Canadiens
31:27hockey jersey, and in response to the gesture, Hughes told the CBC that Flay said,
31:31"...Thank you so much, but it's not going to help."
31:34Hughes went on to defeat Flay with a plate of lobster poutine, so we assume Flay's smack
31:38talk didn't rattle the chef at all.
31:42According to Law 360, in 2009, workers from Bobby Flay's bar Americain, Mesa Grill & Bolo
31:48filed a lawsuit against him that alleged they had been cheated out of wages and tips
31:53and sought to recover minimum wages, overtime compensation, and allegedly misappropriated
31:58gratuities.
31:59The workers' suit claimed they were not paid minimum wage or overtime, and that they had
32:03to buy and launder their own uniforms without reimbursement.
32:06On top of that, the disgruntled staff also alleged that tips were not being properly
32:10distributed, with even management sometimes getting a cut.
32:14Flay eventually agreed to pay a $800,000 settlement, although, according to DNA Info, Flay denied
32:20any wrongdoing, but in court documents said he would rather settle with the workers than
32:24go to trial.
32:26During a 2018 appearance on the podcast Beyond the Plate, Food Network star Giada De Laurentiis
32:31recalled a story that caused her not to speak to Flay for months.
32:35They once teamed up on an episode of Iron Chef and faced off against Rachel Ray and
32:38Mario Batali.
32:40Flay lost, and while De Laurentiis was devastated, Flay didn't appear too bothered at all.
32:44Giada said,
32:45"...we lost and he thought it was funny.
32:47He didn't think it was any big deal that we lost.
32:49I did not talk to him for eight months.
32:51Eight months.
32:52Nothing."
32:53Explaining that it wasn't the loss as much as how Flay reacted to it that bugged her.
32:57She added,
32:58"...it didn't seem to phase him that we lost.
33:00He didn't say, hey, I'm sorry we lost or, hey, we'll do it again, nothing.
33:04He just walked away.
33:05And I thought, you're a jerk and I never want to be around you again."
33:09Of course, the feud eventually ended, the pair went on to co-host Food Network's Star
33:13Together, and now they maintain a good friendship.
33:16As Giada put it,
33:17"...I think that Bobby is one of those people that if you are his friend, he has your back
33:20forever and he will stand up for you."
33:23Flay shocked fans and producers alike when he pulled off his apron during a live 2017
33:28taping of Iron Chef Showdown to show off his shirt, which read,
33:31"...this is my last Iron Chef battle ever."
33:33According to sources for Vanity Fair, producers scrambled once the director called cut and
33:37confronted Flay, telling him they wouldn't be able to edit that moment out of the show.
33:41To that, he allegedly responded, quote,
33:43"...I know.
33:44That's the point."
33:45The insiders went on to claim that the stunt caused tension between Flay and Food Network,
33:49causing speculation on his future with the channel.
33:51However, all that ended when Flay issued a statement that October to People magazine,
33:56claiming the move was merely an ill-conceived joke.
33:59He said,
34:00"...this past summer when I was in production on Iron Chef Showdown, I wore a t-shirt to
34:03have a little fun during my last battle this season."
34:06In hindsight, it was probably not the best decision because it's just creating confusion.
34:10He went on to call Food Network his, quote,
34:12"...family for over 20 years," and expressed his excitement to get back to Kitchen Stadium
34:17whenever his schedule allowed.
34:18But just four months later, Flay officially quit the show, citing the grueling schedule
34:23and stating via People magazine,
34:24"...At some point I was like, I've been doing this for a long time, and I want to go out
34:29on a high note."
34:30"...I'm probably not done yet, but I'm gonna look for the next spark."
34:35Actress Heather Locklear is best known for her long-running stints in Dynasty and Melrose
34:40Place, but with the exception of a Golden Globe nomination for her work on the ABC sitcom
34:44Spin City in 2002, the next chapter was not as kind to the actress.
34:48She managed to keep up appearances by landing a few guest-starring roles, but off-camera,
34:53Locklear was living a very different life, one that was a far cry from the glittering
34:57A-list status she'd previously enjoyed.
35:00Locklear married Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in 1986, and their unlikely union came
35:04as a shock to many.
35:06Jeff Giles wrote for Ultimate Classic Rock,
35:08"...Lee, like his Mötley Crüe bandmates, was rightly perceived as a reckless hedonist."
35:13Locklear, meanwhile, had a virginal reputation.
35:16The heavy metal band was even accused of devil worship during the satanic panic of the mid-80s,
35:20though Locklear brushed that off, telling People,
35:23"...Tommy doesn't worship the devil.
35:25He worships me."
35:26The romance didn't last, and the two divorced in 94.
35:29But Locklear wasn't done with rock stars just yet.
35:32Before the year was out, she was married to Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.
35:36Eleven years later, the actress abruptly filed for divorce.
35:39According to People, she discovered some provocative pictures in an email sent to her husband by
35:43her friend, actress Denise Richards.
35:46Locklear never confirmed the rumors, and Sambora went on to date Richards on and off for several
35:51years.
35:52In March of 2008, a 911 operator answered a call from Locklear's concerned doctor.
35:58According to the Huffington Post, the doctor had prescribed antidepressants to Locklear,
36:01and had become concerned that she might overdose on them.
36:04He told emergency dispatchers,
36:05"...I have a patient.
36:06I have a feeling she's suicidal, and I would want someone to go there."
36:10Officers obliged and went to Locklear's home, but when they arrived, the actress claims
36:14the whole thing was a misunderstanding.
36:16A source told People,
36:17"...She was talking to a friend.
36:18She was bummed about something and the person overreacted.
36:21Heather's doing great.
36:22She seems really happy."
36:24But despite claims from Locklear's nearest and dearest that she was doing fine, in June
36:282008, she quietly checked herself into a rehab facility in Arizona, reportedly to
36:33overcome anxiety and depression.
36:36Locklear's rep said in a press release,
36:37"...she requested an in-depth evaluation of her medication and entered into a medical
36:41facility for proper diagnosis and treatment.
36:43This is a confidential medical matter, and no further statement will be released."
36:48Locklear reportedly spent four weeks undergoing treatment, which included spa sessions and
36:52horse riding, and it apparently did the actress a world of good.
36:55A friend told People,
36:56"...Heather's feeling really great, and she looks beautiful, just radiant.
37:00She told a really funny story and she laughed from her core, and that's when I knew she
37:03was going to be fine.
37:04I think that's the best part of all.
37:06It's so nice to hear her laugh."
37:08Those close to her made it seem as though it was back to business as usual for the actress,
37:12and the story simply went away.
37:14But in the months that followed, the cracks in Locklear's radiant armor began to show
37:17again.
37:18According to People, in 2008, Locklear was arrested and charged with driving under the
37:23influence, after someone called 911 after witnessing her driving erratically.
37:27In the end, Locklear pleaded no contest to reckless driving, and in exchange, the DUI
37:32vanished.
37:33The official line was that Locklear hadn't been drinking that day, but had actually been
37:36unknowingly impaired by the meds she was taking.
37:39Santa Barbara Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter told the New York Daily News,
37:43"...she had prescription medication in her system that could have impaired her ability
37:46to safely drive a motor vehicle."
37:48The plea deal that Locklear's attorney thrashed out with prosecutors required her to take
37:52part in three years of informal probation, as well as a 12-hour DMV road and safety class.
37:57She was also slapped with a $700 fine, but emerged from the situation with her reputation
38:02only slightly tattered.
38:04Following her failed marriages to rock stars, Locklear decided to try dating an actor, and
38:08coupled up with Melrose Place co-star Jack Wagner, her one-time on-screen husband, on
38:13the show.
38:14These two seemed like the perfect match when they first began stepping out in public together
38:18in 2007, and by August 2011, they announced that they were going to marry in real life.
38:23But just a few months later, Locklear's rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the
38:27wedding was off, and according to Star magazine, things got a little crazy between the ex-lovers
38:32when Wagner showed up at Locklear's house to return some of her belongings.
38:35An argument ensued, and the two allegedly got into a physical altercation.
38:39A source close to the couple revealed,
38:41"...a huge argument erupted as they insulted each other's families.
38:45As Heather went to her car, Jack lunged at her, trying to grab or push her.
38:49Her reaction was to swing.
38:51She caught Jack with a right hook across his face, knocking him to the ground."
38:54Initially, it looked as though Locklear and Wagner would be heading to court on battery
38:58charges, but no charges were pressed on either side, and both parties moved on.
39:03Paramedics were once again called to Locklear's home in January of 2012.
39:07According to TMZ, her sister made a panicked 911 call after discovering Locklear had ingested
39:12a dangerous mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol.
39:15A spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department told People,
39:18"...emergency response personnel responded to a medical emergency call at Ms. Locklear's
39:22residence.
39:23Once they arrived, it was determined that Ms. Locklear needed to be transported to the
39:27hospital for further medical attention."
39:29Speculation was rife that the actress had made an attempt on her own life, but the actress
39:33and her family claimed it was an accidental overdose.
39:36A hospital spokesperson told the New York Daily News,
39:39Her parents want everyone to know that it was not a suicide attempt.
39:42She's not in any danger, and she's just fine.
39:44She's resting comfortably.
39:45And when she's not resting, she's talkative and alert and in good condition.
39:50In January 2017, Locklear released a statement claiming that she was feeling great in response
39:55to a rumor that she'd re-entered rehab.
39:57The actress said she was ready to go full steam ahead, in 2017, but in September of
40:02that year, she ran her Porsche off the road.
40:05Emergency dispatch audio revealed that Locklear pulled herself free of the crash before a
40:09rescue crew, or paparazzi, arrived.
40:12Most outlets reported that Locklear had simply veered into a ditch, but a 911 call obtained
40:17by TMZ told a different story.
40:19The caller can be heard telling the dispatcher that the car had crashed into a creek and
40:23was 10 feet or more from the roadside.
40:25Is there anything else?
40:26Was there anyone in there?
40:27Yeah, there is a car.
40:28There is a person in the car.
40:31Locklear was hospitalized, indicating that the accident was actually worse than she let
40:35on.
40:36Entertainment Tonight later reported that she had broken her collarbone.
40:39Interestingly, as soon as the authorities became aware of her identity, it seems they
40:43may have wrapped things up as swiftly as possible.
40:45A deputy told the radio dispatcher on the call,
40:48"'It's a celebrity.
40:49She's huge.'"
40:50And the dispatcher responded,
40:51"'I'll let the sheriff's office know and they'll probably get out there a little quicker.'"
40:55Locklear once again escaped charges.
40:57Law enforcement officials concluded neither drugs nor alcohol were to blame for the accident.
41:03In February 2018, Locklear was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence and
41:07battery on a sheriff's deputy, after her brother reportedly showed up at her house and found
41:11her fighting with boyfriend Chris Heiser.
41:14According to TMZ, Locklear's brother reportedly called 911 when the violence started getting
41:18out of hand, but when law enforcement turned up, the actress reportedly became irate.
41:23A source told Entertainment Tonight,
41:25She was furious.
41:26Her brother got the police involved and she was in no state to be able to have a normal
41:30thinking conversation.
41:31She was out of control.
41:33She was screaming at the police and went on the attack.
41:35She physically fought the police, and they had to handcuff her to control her.
41:39This version of events was seemingly confirmed by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department,
41:43who told the Los Angeles Times that Locklear's behavior was,
41:46"...extremely hostile and uncooperative."
41:49And she, at one point, became combative with the deputies.
41:52An insider told Entertainment Tonight that Locklear has a habit of projecting an image
41:56of normalcy, though she may be battling personal problems behind the scenes.
42:00It's sad she lets things get this out of control before she gets help.
42:04In September 2017, Locklear posted lovey-dovey messages about Heiser to her Instagram, calling
42:09her high school sweetheart her first love and final love, and her favorite person on
42:13Earth.
42:14But Heiser found himself in handcuffs after being busted for DUI just hours after the
42:18alleged domestic violence incident.
42:20We certainly hope the Heather Locklear we love finds a way to merge her private and
42:24public personas into a strong and healthy identity.
42:29Amber Heard has carved out an impressive on-screen career, but you're likely to also know the
42:33actress from her personal life, which has often become tabloid fodder.
42:38Here are some things you may not know about Amber Heard's real life.
42:42Heard and her estranged husband, Johnny Depp, met in 2012 on the set of The Rum Diary and
42:47wed in 2015.
42:49By May 2016, Heard had filed for divorce and accused him of domestic abuse.
42:55Heard wrote in the declaration,
42:56"[During the entirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive
43:01to me.
43:02I endured excessive emotional, verbal, and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included
43:06angry, hostile, humiliating, and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority
43:12or disagreed with him."
43:14Heard submitted a photo depicting her with a bruised face.
43:17She claimed the injury was caused by Depp striking her with his phone.
43:21She told the court,
43:22"[I live in fear that Johnny will return to our house unannounced to terrorize me, physically
43:27and emotionally."
43:28The police found no evidence of an assault when responding to a domestic dispute at the
43:32couple's home in May 2016, and Heard declined to file a criminal report.
43:38Depp's attorney told the court,
43:39"[Heard is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.
43:45Johnny cannot protect himself or Amber from media scrutiny."
43:49While Heard accused Depp of domestic violence, she was actually arrested for alleged domestic
43:54violence against her former partner, photographer Tasia Von Ray, in September 2009.
44:00According to TMZ, Heard and Von Ray got into an argument at an airport, and Heard allegedly
44:05struck Von Ray.
44:06She was arrested and booked for misdemeanor domestic violence, but the prosecutor declined
44:11to move forward, supposedly because both women live in California.
44:15Years after the incident, Von Ray told People that it was, quote, over-sensationalized,
44:20and described the arresting officers as homophobic.
44:22But it turns out the arresting officer actually identifies as a gay woman, and wrote in a
44:27Facebook statement,
44:28"...I am so not homophobic.
44:30The arrest was made because an assault occurred, I witnessed it, and the parties were in a
44:34domestic partnership."
44:36Von Ray also released a statement when reports of the arrest resurfaced in 2016, saying,
44:41"...it's disheartening that Amber's integrity and story are being questioned yet again.
44:46Amber is a brilliant, honest, and beautiful woman, and I have the utmost respect for her.
44:51We shared five wonderful years together and remain close to this day."
44:56Heard's relationship with the media swings like a pendulum.
44:59In 2013, she told Refinery29 that making movies was the easy part, and added,
45:04"...the press is where you really work for your money."
45:06However, others suggest it's Heard who's working the press.
45:10According to CBS News, she filed for divorce from Depp just days after his mother died
45:14in May 2016, and she filed for a restraining order just days before his film, Alice Through
45:20the Looking Glass, debuted in theaters.
45:22A media feeding frenzy ensued, successfully overshadowing Depp's major life events.
45:27Depp's longtime friend, comedian Doug Stanhope, claimed Heard was attempting to blackmail
45:32Depp through the press, if he didn't concede to her divorce demands, by claiming she was
45:36abused.
45:37In an op-ed for The Wrap, Stanhope wrote,
45:40"...everything Johnny has told us that she'd be threatening had actually come to be.
45:44It blew up in the news, raced through the internet like a plague, and blew up on Twitter.
45:49People are swarming with torches on social media."
45:52In December 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post about what the media does
45:57to women who come forward about domestic or sexual violence, explaining that advisers
46:02told her she could be blacklisted or lose roles because she went public with her allegations.
46:07She wrote,
46:08"...I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force
46:12of our culture's wrath for women who speak out."
46:15"...even outside of this industry, we need to change the way we talk about women on a
46:22social level, on a political level."
46:24Although she didn't mention Depp by name in the piece, Heard was hit with a $50 million
46:29defamation lawsuit by the actor, who felt it was a, quote, "...clear implication of
46:33him."
46:34According to NBC News, the lawsuit claimed,
46:36"...the op-ed depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim
46:41and that Mr. Depp perpetuated domestic violence against her.
46:45The picture is categorically and demonstrably false.
46:49Amber hit, punched, and kicked me.
46:51She also repeatedly and frequently threw objects into my body and head."
46:55In response, Heard dubbed Depp the monster and claimed he had threatened her life.
47:00Recalling the times when Depp allegedly physically assaulted and attempted to suffocate her while
47:05under the influence of alcohol and drugs, Heard claimed,
47:08"...Johnny often would not remember his delusional and violent conduct after he came out of his
47:13drunk or medicated states.
47:15Because I love Johnny, I had believed his multiple promises that he could and would
47:19get better.
47:20I was wrong."
47:21We need to not wait for 15, 20 women to come forward before we stop asking, what's your
47:27motive?"
47:28While Depp has been widely viewed as the alleged aggressor, public perception on the situation
47:33began to shift when expletive-filled audio recordings from 2015 were obtained by the
47:38Daily Mail in February 2020, on which Heard appeared to admit to physically assaulting
47:44him.
47:45In the first recording, Heard can be heard on tape talking about an incident that occurred
47:49the night before, during which Depp claimed she punched him.
47:52She allegedly says,
47:53"'I'm sorry that I didn't hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you.
47:58It was not punching you.
47:59Babe, you're not punched.'"
48:01The second audio recording features Heard appearing to almost taunt Depp, asking if
48:06anyone would believe that a 115-pound woman attacked him.
48:10She repeatedly said in a mocking tone,
48:12"'You're going to get up on the stand, Johnny, and say she started it?
48:16Really?'
48:17"'You're going to tell people that it was a fair fight, and see what the jury and judge
48:20thinks?
48:21Tell the world, Johnny.
48:22Tell them, Depp.
48:23I, Depp, a man, I'm a victim, too, of domestic violence.'"
48:26Heard's motion to dismiss Depp's defamation lawsuit was denied that March, according to
48:31Deadline.
48:33Johnny Depp's legal team strengthened its offensive when it called upon Amber Heard's
48:37former personal assistant, Kate James, to testify against her former boss.
48:41In a pre-taped video played in court in April 2022, James said she worked for the actor
48:47from 2012 through 2015, and claimed she was repeatedly abused.
48:53James recalled a number of instances in which Heard allegedly yelled at her in a blind rage,
48:57and claimed that she was hit with barrages of abusive text messages day and night.
49:02She claimed the messages were incoherent and that Heard just wanted someone to lash out
49:06at.
49:07James also testified that she never saw any bruising or signs of abuse on Heard, that
49:11the former couple's home always appeared in order, and that Heard never confided in her
49:16about any mistreatment.
49:18The most shocking revelation, however, came as James claimed that when she once asked
49:22for a raise, she said that Heard,
49:24"...leapt up out of her chair, put her face four inches from my face, telling me how dare
49:28I ask the salary I was asking for.
49:31She felt that gave her the right to spit in my face."
49:34The former assistant added that Heard's alleged habit of mistreatment extended to her own
49:38sister and mother, and James referred to Depp as a total Southern gentleman whom she never
49:43saw lose his temper.
49:46During the 2020 court proceedings linked to Johnny Depp's libel lawsuit against The Sun,
49:50where the magazine labeled him a wife-beater, the actor's legal team tried to prove Amber
49:54Heard had a history of physical abuse.
49:57"...Depp's legal team made very clear yesterday that the case is all about vindication of
50:03his reputation."
50:04Depp's lawyer, David Sherborne, told a London court he had a video that would prove Heard
50:09had a history of violence and attacking people.
50:11In said clip, the Aquaman star's younger sister, Whitney Enriquez, is shown having
50:16her face and arm examined by a woman who proclaims,
50:19"...I can't believe Amber beat your a—."
50:21However, when Enriquez took to the stand, she was adamant that the footage wasn't what
50:25it seemed, explaining that she had only had a verbal disagreement with her sister.
50:30Enriquez explained that the clip was filmed for a really bad reality show in the mid-2000s,
50:35and that the woman was simply trying to make a very, very boring conversation more interesting.
50:40Enriquez was also asked about a 2015 incident during which Heard admitted she hit Depp in
50:45order to protect her sister, whom she feared he would push down the stairs.
50:49Recalling the fight that allegedly occurred on the staircase in the building where they
50:52all lived, Enriquez seemingly corroborated the story, claiming that Depp was trying to
50:57push her aside to get to Heard.
50:59She claimed that,
51:00"...Amber suddenly lurched forward and hit him and said, don't hit my sister."
51:05After Johnny Depp filed his $50 million defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2019, she responded
51:11by filing her own court documents in which she detailed her ex's alleged physical and
51:15psychological abuse — abuse that she said resulted in her suffering from post-traumatic
51:20stress disorder.
51:22Heard's argument was that Depp's legal team set out to debunk her claims by hiring a clinical
51:26and forensic psychologist named Dr. Shannon Curry to evaluate Heard.
51:31Dr. Curry spent about 12 hours with Heard in person and also analyzed various court
51:36documents, videos, and evidence.
51:38Delivering her verdict in court in April 2022, she concluded that Heard allegedly had borderline
51:43personality disorder and histrionic personality disorder, but apparently not PTSD.
51:50According to the Mayo Clinic, patients with borderline personality disorder often have
51:53an intense fear of abandonment or instability.
51:56However, their inappropriate anger, impulsiveness, and frequent mood swings may make keeping
52:01relationships difficult.
52:03Meanwhile, histrionic personality disorder typically manifests itself in a willingness
52:07to do almost anything to be the center of attention.
52:10Indeed, Dr. Curry assessed that Heard was a Type 36 personality, insisting,
52:15"...very concerned with their image, very attention-seeking, very prone to externalizing
52:21blame to a point."
52:23And while she conceded that Heard still could have been psychologically harmed by Depp,
52:27as she's alleged, Dr. Curry concluded that Heard was allegedly grossly exaggerating symptoms
52:32of PTSD when asked about them.
52:35Heard first met Elon Musk on the set of 2013's Machete Kills.
52:40At that point, Heard was with Johnny Depp and Musk was married.
52:43They apparently hit it off, but didn't publicly acknowledge a romantic relationship until
52:47April 2017, when Heard posted a photo of them to Instagram.
52:51In that photo, Musk had a print of her red lipstick on his cheek.
52:55As one source told People, friendship didn't blossom into love until they were both single,
52:59a claim Depp refuted.
53:01During his libel case against The Sun, Depp accused his ex-wife of cheating on him with
53:05the Tesla founder.
53:06He later repeated those same claims during his defamation suit against Heard, alleging
53:11that she and Musk first got together in 2015.
53:14What's more, he accused the couple of having a threesome with Cara Delevingne at his home
53:19in 2016 after he and Heard split.
53:21It was an allegation Musk denied, telling Page Six,
53:24"'Cara and I are friends, but we've never been intimate.'"
53:27He also underscored the fact that he and Heard only started dating a month after Heard filed
53:32for divorce.
53:33While we may never know the real timeline, Depp and Heard's former talent agent, Kristen
53:37Carino, added his own take on the matter while testifying in court in April 2022.
53:42Carino said that while Heard and Depp were indeed separated at the time she was with
53:46Musk, she was allegedly just filling space with the billionaire while trying to fix things
53:50with Depp.
