00:00Today, December 18, we commemorate at a global level the National Day of the Migrant Worker and his family.
00:10We, from the MENAMIL, join this commemoration and that the UN made this provision,
00:20worth the redundancy, in the sense that so that the States,
00:25the countries can recognize the contribution that the immigrants make,
00:30from the countries of origin, transit and accommodation.
00:34So we join this global commemoration for migrant workers and their families.
00:42We are talking about more than 170,000 migrant workers in the world,
00:49because they contribute to the economy, they contribute to the culture in the countries they come from,
00:56but they also contribute to the issue of remittances.
00:59In relation to the summons made by a group of organizations that work with migrants,
01:09we respect the decision because it is the right to employment, the right to mobilization,
01:16a human right, a constitutional right.
01:18But it is also possible that there are reasons why the summons, the immigrants, can protest,
01:26both for the issue of detention in Haiti, the issue of deportations,
01:31the issue of problems they may have in their companies where they work.
01:35But we, from the MENAMIL, understand that this summons is inopportune.
01:40Why? Because we are talking about a Christmas celebration,
01:44we are talking about the fact that a large part of the migrant workers are informal workers
01:49who have to work every day to eat every day.
01:52And also those who work with some companies in the agricultural construction sector,
01:59in this activity they need money to survive, to pay for housing, to eat,
02:06because they also need money this Christmas to send their families to Haiti.
02:10So I think that the summons chose a very difficult moment.
02:15And besides, the same immigrants are practically doing a permanent strike.
02:22There are many who can't even go out to the streets because they don't have documents.
02:27So I think that although it is true that they have rights and it is possible that there are reasons for mobilization.
