00:00This here is Rhythm and Flow, season two.
00:03Let's go.
00:06♪ I'm top two and I ain't two, I made it all the way so easy way nigga I can't lose. ♪
00:10With like shows like this, you know, obviously Lotto, you won the rap game.
00:14What's like the importance for shows like this to exist in like the digital space now
00:17where it's a lot different to break artists compared to say, even 10, 20 years ago?
00:22I think it gives people like an insight look on like what really goes into
00:29becoming an artist.
00:30Like I think social media gives this perception that, false perception that you kind of just
00:36like blow up overnight.
00:37And some people are lucky enough to do that.
00:40But I think a lot of times I can, I think all three of us can attest that, you know,
00:46this is blood, sweat and tears.
00:47It's a lot of being put on the spot and having to, you know, sit down and come up with a plan.
00:54Was there like certain things that each of you guys took that you can incorporate into
00:57your own artistry that maybe you learned from like an artist?
00:59Hell yeah.
01:00I said, as soon as I started doing this, I was like, it's so good for me being in the
01:04game, humbly speaking, for so long to get that hunger and energy of when you are trying
01:11to prove to the world that you are that motherfucker.
01:16And I was loving every minute of it, just from that perspective of putting myself in
01:20a room full of people that just had so much to prove.
01:24You know, some artists in hip hop or any genre think that, you know, it doesn't take
01:29a long time and you might win overnight.
01:31And some like you might win overnight, you know what I'm saying?
01:33But even the ones that win overnight, it's still going to take as long as the person
01:38that started from nothing.
01:39Because when you win overnight, you win so big on top and now you got to find a way to
01:45keep going and be there because you might be going down now, you know what I'm saying?
01:50And I want to remind artists that, you know, don't try to skip the steps, you know what
01:54I'm saying?
01:55Enjoy it.
01:56Enjoy every moment of it.
01:57You authentic.
01:58You live it.
01:59You breathe it.
02:00You have a real great fighting chance of actually winning this goddamn thing.
02:03So let's go.
02:04And we got to make sure that, you know, we tell the young artists, man, make that music
02:09that will play forever.
02:10You might not be able to make that record today, but your process will be able to, and
02:15you'll enjoy it more.
02:16And then you sit back and you brought up Quincy Jones, right?
02:20I always look at that blueprint with Quincy, like, man, like, it doesn't matter how old
02:25you are.
02:26I heard Busta the other day on his acceptance speech, you know, they always try to put a
02:30time capsule on hip hop, you know what I'm saying?
02:33Busta was saying, well, I'm going to be the James Brown.
02:35I'm going to be, you know, we're going to do this like forever.
02:38Like, there's no reason why we, it don't matter who you are.
02:43You can do this forever as long as you love it and you put out that great work because
02:47you make that right music becomes timeless.
02:50Not even just in music, in anything you do.
02:51What separated Dre TL from, say, J Tosh?
02:54Man, I keep saying, it was very, it was very close call.
02:59It was a lot of times that we were, we had some heated debates and discussions and it
03:04was a very close margin.
03:06But at the end of the day, I kept saying, for me, he just kept surprising me in areas
03:12where I thought that he would only reach a certain amount of expectations for me.
03:17Because to me, if your trajectory is starting a certain way, but you continue to ascend,
03:22that lets me know, I don't know how far you can get past someone that I'm looking at that's
03:26already good or considered great.
03:29You might go into another stratosphere of greatness.
03:31And that's all, I just saw him ascend the entire show.
03:34I didn't come all this way to go back home.
03:40Season two, Rhythm and Flow.
03:42Let's go.
