The Strange Sound That The Sun Makes
Transcripción
00:00¿Sabías que el sol hace ruidos de gritos?
00:03People who are born deaf who gain hearing later in life often report that they expected
00:09the sun to make some kind of noise.
00:12And they aren't entirely wrong.
00:14If you close your eyes during a peaceful sunrise, you'll start to hear nothing because space
00:19is a vacuum and sound can travel through it.
00:22But physicists recorded acoustical pressure waves on the surface of the sun and learned
00:26that it does make noise.
00:28It's so loud that if space weren't a vacuum, it would sound like a lawnmower by the time
00:33it reached us on Earth.
00:34It's at a really low frequency, but they sped up the recording so you can hear what it
00:38sounds like now if you want.
00:40Try not to think about how the sun is so far away that if it disappeared, it would take
00:43about eight minutes for the last light to reach us.
00:46But because noise is slower, this is the sound that you would be left listening to for 13
00:51years in total darkness.
