00:00Significant rainfall has been recorded across southern Queensland over the past 24 hours.
00:06It initially began in Highfields and the Garry Junction area around Toowoomba yesterday afternoon
00:13where flash flooding was recorded with a number of roads cut.
00:16But the main issue has been the South Burnet overnight where a Watch and Act warning was
00:21issued.
00:22Now that has been reduced overnight, but that doesn't mean there hasn't already been some
00:25significant rainfalls.
00:26Some totals of up to 100mm have been recorded around Cumbia, just south-west of Kingaroy,
00:32with about 90mm recorded in one hour.
00:36Koolbanya as well also had about 90mm in two hours.
00:40So that has led to more flooding around that area and some damage to roads.
00:44The Mergen to Gainder Road has seen significant damage, along with the Cumbia to Ninango Road
00:50which has also been significantly damaged.
00:53There's also been reports that the main street of Cumbia has been damaged, but so far there's
00:57been minimal SES call-outs.
01:00Campers have been offered to relocate to the Kingaroy showgrounds yesterday if required,
01:05but so far it does not sound like anyone's taken up that offer, while a number of dams
01:10in the region have begun spilling.
01:13Now the forecast for today is for gusty wind conditions and there are some concerns that
01:17waterlogged trees could be knocked down and cause further damage to these roadworks.
01:22So the big message out there is particularly for motorists in the holiday season to make
01:26sure that they plan their trips ahead, make sure that they're travelling safely, and if
01:30it is flooded, forget it.
