00:00New year, new 50, 100, and 500 polymer bills will be held.
00:06Let's take a look at the decennial and find out where we can replace it in Marie Zumal's report.
00:14There are some who, when asked what they want to receive this Christmas,
00:18the answer is cash or money.
00:20That's why the Central Bank of the Philippines has just assigned new money.
00:25BSP has just reissued the polymer bank notes to President Bombo Marcos.
00:30This is what the new polymer bank notes look like,
00:33or the money that we will see in circulation starting next week.
00:37Aside from Php 1,000, where the Philippine Eagle is located,
00:41the Visayan Spotted Deer, Palawan Peacock Pheasant, is located at Php 500,
00:49and Visayan Leopard Cat at Php 50.
00:53The first Philippine polymer bank note series is smarter, cleaner, and stronger.
01:01Smarter because they have advanced anti-counterfeiting features and a smaller carbon footprint.
01:09Cleaner because viruses and bacteria do not survive on polymer as long as they do on paper.
01:18And stronger because they last longer than their paper counterparts.
01:23It can now be obtained from banks and used starting December 23,
01:27but it will be limited to the Greater Manila area.
01:29Starting in January, it is expected to circulate throughout the country.
01:33But even if there is a change in money, old paper can still be used.
01:37But because it is stronger, polymer notes are said to be more practical.
01:41Polymer bank notes can last up to seven and a half years, five times longer.
01:45And that means that we no longer need to replace them as often.
01:49Saving money, cutting down on waste, and making a meaningful contribution to protecting the environment.
02:00Maris Umali reporting for GMA Integrated News.
