00:00Over the last few days we've seen significant rainfall over parts of Queensland and over
00:05the coming days we're expecting to see more rainfall through the eastern parts of Queensland.
00:09We are also monitoring a tropical low that's forming up around Weeper and is expected to
00:14travel down the coast and move offshore towns for later this week.
00:19I wanted to take this opportunity just to remind people that if it's flooded, forget
00:25it.
00:26Please don't drive through flood borders.
00:27Please don't put your life at risk and the lives of emergency services workers at risk
00:32by driving through our flood borders.
00:33Over the last few weeks, we're only early in the season and we've already seen risky
00:38behaviour being undertaken with people driving through flood borders.
00:42The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, the SES, the Rural Fire Service, the Queensland
00:47Ambulance Service have already had to rescue many people from flood borders from the west
00:52of the state to the southeast corner and the north of the state.
00:56So please, I implore you, particularly leading into Christmas, please do not drive through
01:00flood borders.
01:01It's not worth it.
01:02Don't put your life at risk.
01:04And can I also take this opportunity to remind people not to play in flood waters.
01:08I know it's school holidays, I know the kids are home, but can we please remind our children
01:13not to play in flood waters.
01:15Only this week we saw a young 15-year-old boy in far north Queensland get sucked down
01:20one of our drains.
01:21We were lucky on that occasion that that boy came out with some scratches and bruises,
01:26but we do not want to see bad outcomes from kids playing in flood waters.
01:30So mums and dads, can I implore on you, have a conversation with the kids, tell them how
01:35dangerous it is.
01:36You just do not know what's under that water.
01:38If you stay out of our flood waters, we'll be safe this year and we can have a great Christmas.
