00:00I mean, the Kurds you mentioned there, I mean, they do pose a bit of a dilemma to Syria's new
00:04leaders. What's going to happen to them and not just them, but the other armed factions that are
00:09operating in Syria? I mean, how do you see them being integrated into the next chapter of Syria?
00:19Well, all I can say, Tom, is I'm quite glad I don't have that problem to deal with myself,
00:23because it's going to be difficult. I mean, the result of all these years of conflict is that
00:29the Syrian population is probably one of the most heavily armed in the world.
00:34There are guns in, you know, not necessarily every household, but a lot of them.
00:39And there are, as you say, all these different more minor sects, some of which have been
00:44present in Idlib itself in that sort of provisional administration.
00:50The Kurds are a problem, as you say. It may be that the Turks have a down on the Kurds,
00:56but on the other hand, the Americans have been supporting them very strongly,
01:00primarily as a source of support in tackling the remains of ISIS and al-Qaeda up in that
01:09part of Syria. So, I mean, yeah, it's extremely complicated.
