What you want to avoid is businesses that simply can't scale. You can usually figure this out during the discovery call with the client. For example, if you are working with a barbershop or a single-location hair salon, you can do all the marketing you want, drive traffic, and bring in customers, but once the business reaches full capacity, where do they go from there? They don't have anywhere else to go.
Unless they plan on scaling their business, you are going to hit a ceiling and at that point, they might no longer need your services. So working with single-store businesses or those that aren't looking to grow can limit your potential as an agency.
