Fife Flyers face 'play or season ends' weekend
Transcript
00:30Yeah, I mean, I think that for us, it's unprecedented times, I feel that it was, I don't think people
00:49knew how precarious the situation was, it was literally, the guys choose to play tonight
00:54or Flyers Hockey ceased to exist for the season and potentially in the league forever.
01:00And it was a big ask from the guys, we have a fragile group that are really, really looking
01:07for some direction.
01:09We promoted Johnny Kern to interim head coach, I thought he did a fantastic job tonight,
01:15I'm so proud of him too.
01:17It was nice to see the boys upbeat and really rallying behind him in the first period.
01:21I'm just kind of there to give him a hand, I really didn't want to throw him into the
01:24deep end, you know, and really that's the organizational update.
01:29You know, other than saying that we're looking to bring in additional players and hopefully
01:34we get some of these injured players back and our players in a real way.
01:39This group deserves it, they need to have the league and the team to be behind them
01:43and they're certainly going to get it from us and the league has been very supportive.
01:49People don't need to be listening to me all night, I think they're more interested in
01:54listening to Johnny's assessment of the game, I'll leave it at that.
01:58We're going to try and be as informative as possible, people are worried and people are
02:05going to want to know what's going on and the short answer is we're going to give these
02:10guys the support they need.
02:19Yeah, tonight's game, a lot of character from the flight flyers, the regulars, our normal
02:34guys, there was a big ask for them to go and play with the numbers that they had and they
02:39answered the bell.
02:40I thought we showed our guts in the first period, obviously the fast class kind of takes
02:46over and we opened up a bit but the whole 60 minutes our regulars showed what they're
02:51all about and then the young guns, the young Brits, we had a couple names for them, I thought
02:56they did great for us, really appreciate what they did, they stepped up.
03:00We had two imports per line and the young guys were ready and I didn't even have to
03:05call their names, they knew what the order was so they made it easy on me and yeah, good
03:09first experience.
03:11Well, I think I can speak for Todd and definitely myself, I'd love to get a practice and then
03:16we'll go from there.
03:17These guys, we showed a couple things on the board and the young guys and our regulars,
03:21they did a great job, they bought into it and I think they made a few adjustments under
03:24our notes as well without us picking up but they did great.
03:27As far as where to go from, we're going to get some bodies, we're going to get some help
03:32from our own guys and then we're just going to build from there.
03:35We have the kind of guys, the characters in our room that if they can help, they would
03:39and that's how beat up we are, that guys can't go out there because it's going to be a longer
03:44term injury and we can never ask guys to go out there and put their careers on the line
03:49and so that's where we're at, so hopefully we can match them up as quick as possible
03:53without forcing them on the ice.
03:58There's a lot of spirit, there's a wounded animal in the corner too so these guys are
04:02protecting themselves and they're doing what they can and probably above and beyond what
04:06we're asking them.
04:07There was a time, I don't know if it was in the first or second period, I guess it was
04:11in the first, we had five guys surrounding Shane Owen and Shane scrambling for the puck
04:16and you can't really ask guys to do that, they just did it and they're collapsing and
04:20they're pretty much refusal in that instance to get scored on, kind of showing what they
04:25want to do and so we can build off of efforts like that.
